People will always be angry or upset over something they had nothing to do with. Yes,the Civil War was horrific in every sense of the word, but at the same time, the Confederate flag is not about slavery,it was about their way to do things,it was about their wanting to shape their own fates. Just remember, just as any Southerner could have paid to be exempt or provide a substitute, the North could too. And at first, there was resentment with blacks being allowed to fight. But soon that vanished, the white soldiers respected their courage and ability.
People also forget that a slave could gain their freedom in exchange for service and for many, they were willing to endure the war for freedom. The war was not over slavery solely. It was about limiting government power, being able to conduct their own affairs, and to be their own entity.
And certain peoples always go on the warpath when they believe they were offended. I hate to sound like a racist, but many blacks tend to have a mob mentality,a sense of entitlement, and that everything should be given to them. What they forget is one little thing. Their ancestors were captured in tribal warfare in Africa, and the victors sold the losers as slave labor. They sold their own people into slavery.
Many users are right,as much as people want to forget,we have to always remember what happened so that we may learn from it and hopefully not repeat the same mistakes. If we just swept the past aside,we learn nothing,we do not progress,we are just waiting for the next fiasco. And let us not forget after the surrender of the CSA,it was ordered that the Southern people receive food and sundries when it was discovered that they had nothing. Believe it or not,Lincoln wanted to rebuild the South after the war.
In closing,I think all this hypersensitivity, this political correctness, this SJW bulls--t,is the real enemy. We have to face facts and try to learn from them, not alter everything because someone has a thin skin and no spine or coping skills. All this new age thinking crap is doing is making us soft, weak, stupid, and shells of our former selves. People will always be angry or upset over something they had nothing to do with.
