SPOILERS
This is going to be my 3rd ever TV show review along with the 1st episode of Quantico and the season 1 finale of Gravity Falls.
Dipperr and Mabel vs the Future is the 17th episode of season 2 of Gravity Falls and aired two days ago. It is quite possibly one of the best animated TV episodes in a while because it's funny, very intense, and also sad. Even if you don't watch the show, you should be able to piece together how big the episode is from what happens.
The Prolouge: Over the last few episodes, Dipper and Mabel discover their uncle has a twin brother named Ford who wrote the journals depicting all the paranormal things in the town of Gravity Falls. The episode centers around the twins preparing for their 13th birthday, which falls on the last day of summer, when they go back home. At first, Mabel is excited about growing but while Dipper is on an adventure with Ford, she realizes how much she wants to stay young and where she is.
This is actually a really big episode for fans because, like a few recent episodes have done, it is revealed whether some fan made theories are true or not. Some of these theories have been around for a while, and some of them blow your mind, like discovering the existence of aliens. This wouldn't be the 1st time that the show put in something beyond the normal scope of paranormal. Earlier in the season, the show introduced a possibly canon relationship with the show Rick and Morty, and a few episodes later, it was confirmed that interdimensional travel is indeed in the show, and plays a huge part.
After saving Fords life, Dipper says he wants to stay in Gravity Falls after the summer ends to work with him and to save the world, while Mabel would be sent back home. Mabel is torn by this and ends up making a deal with a time traveling acquaintance. Of course, the time traveler is being possessed by the shows main villain and the deal is that he will make it so the summer never ends, in exchange for the one thing that can end the world.
Of course Mabel didn't know what the thing was or that he was possessed so she gave it to him and the the world was plunged into pure chaos.
One thing that makes the episode so intense is the graphics. Yeah, its animated so there isn't much you can do on top of what the show already looks like, but the people behind the show know how to use the same art style and make it feel so much different. Just by changing a couple colors, the episode gets darker than it should and everything about the style looks so intense, especially the last couple minutes of the episode.
Overall, even if you never saw the show, you should be able to appreciate how awesome the episode looks and how intense it is, and it's easily one of the 3 best episodes of the entire series, if not the best.
