Title says it all. This isn't targeted at anybody specific, it's more or less at the recent leaving threads, and some pms I've gotten. I've been noticing since I've been gone and back that most members tend to leave. Some I understand like when it involves real life and getting busy and stuff like that. But All I've read Recently is a very common" I don't feel welcomed here anymore, I don't care to stick around with the feeling"etc My question is to those users: Why is that? I haven't noticed no flaming, no insulting etc. You just got welcomed back by all your old buddies that knew you really well. 2) It's not like Vizzed is going anywhere, it's a free site in a realistic situation, so it's not like your account is going anywhere. 3) There's plenty of new people around, I'd say try to know em before you judge the site as a whole. 4) It's also a gaming site, not just chat purposes. I'm not meaning to offend anybody, but it feels like the more recent leaving threads aren't being very clear as to why the person is leaving. I wouldn't look too far into it man. A lot of the people you are referring to have "made their own bed" so to speak. Meaning that the way they treat other users and carry themselves on the site has made some people not like them as much, directly resulting in feeling not as welcome. These are also users that tend to start "issues" in chat and in debate threads.
Sometimes people don't realize that there are consequences for always speaking their mind no matter how it makes other people feel. Although I do feel that sometimes older members could be more welcoming to NEW members, these issues with older users are more of a result of their actions. In my opinion, those users are having trouble in adapting to the ever-changing community Vizzed is. Possibly stemming from what Jordan said, they don't get in touch with the newcomers, and thus they slowly but steadily feel like they're drifting away from this site. I don't really see the point in not being welcome if you don't break the rules. Probably not many people will follow your opinions, but that doesn't mean you're not welcome. Some people have considered leaving for the same reasons you list, but eventually remained here. So, basically, it's up to each person's point of view and what and how many things make them stay. And well, while it's true that this is a gaming site, it originally was a forum. There are some users out there who don't even care for the RGR and only use the forums to know people and chat, so I consider point 4) invalid. Like I said to you in the off-topic thread.... this happens all the time. People don't stick around at Vizzed (or other sites) forever. I think the average posting user lasts at most a year here and the moves on. The people who have thousands of posts are generally the exception to that.
Generally that means that the core posting group changes over regularly but remains a fairly small group of people regardless of how many come and go. The average user only makes a few posts a month while a small minority makes 100+ Either way there is nothing you can really do about it except try and have as much fun at Vizzed as you can. If people see you enjoying yourself it might encourage people to stay or new people to be active. There's little you have to understand.
Trust me on this, you'll feel better if you just ignore it. People leave for all kinds of reasons. Some do it to get attention, some people do it, thinking they are actually leaving, and want to leave a post to greet them if they ever return (to keep their convictions strong). But more or less, people just leave, and make posts about it, because they want to. It's no different than any kind of post on this site, just less positive than most. Everyone leaves eventually. Many will make posts, send PMs, or otherwise tell people. It's basic human nature to let someone know you are peacing out. Trust me on this, you'll feel better if you just ignore it. The problem with this is what most other users here have stated in this thread. These members who don't feel welcomed aren't taking the time to get to know new members and other people that they never give a chance to even know. I mean don't feel bad about it or anything... you may not understand but not everyone stays forever. It's that way on alot of sites. |

Eh, it's like a new game to most people: you get it and it's the most amazing game in the world...then after a while with it, you just toss it into the pile with all of the others.
Basically, the novelty wears off just like it does with everything in life. When the new wears off, people get tired and leave. And really with a website with the sole purpose of entertainment, that makes sense. You're going to get bored with it and when you do you'll leave it. Heck, even I get bored with Vizzed sometimes, and I'm a moderator and staff member. xD I've gotten bored a few times during my mod run, but I stick around because I see this site as more than just a place to have fun. It's a community that I'm a part of, and one doesn't move into a new house when they get bored with their neighbors, so why should I leave the Vizzed community during those times when the shine wears off and it just becomes part of the daily grind? I think that's the main difference between users who leave after a year or two (the vast majority), and users who stay for several years (a very small minority): one sees a place for fun, and one sees a community and commits themselves to contributing to that. And there are many other smaller reasons: their friends left, or they didn't get a position they wanted, or they had a fight with someone etc. It's all just personal feelings, man. No one can really explain what other people are feeling, especially by looking at the actions of the multitude. Basically, the novelty wears off just like it does with everything in life. My thoughts mostly line up with what Eirinn just said. Heck, even I get bored of Vizzed every now and then. But really it just comes down to personal opinion and choices, as to why a user would leave. Some feel wronged, others feel mistreated, some simply get bored and go. Try not to take it personally though okay? Some feel wronged, others feel mistreated, some simply get bored and go. Try not to take it personally though okay? |

I suppose other forums are more welcoming. I personally do not feel "included" as I would in a Facebook group, but then I have only myself to blame since I do not interact much. The scope with which I can post is limited since: I do not watch many movies of TV, I know almost nothing about Pokémon and animes, and there is only so much I can post about video games I have played. |

Yeah, like Janus said, I think it's because other forums are more welcoming. I mean, let's play devils advocate here. 1)I haven't noticed no flaming, no insulting etc. You just got welcomed back by all your old buddies that knew you really well. True. Really no argument here. 2) It's not like Vizzed is going anywhere, it's a free site in a realistic situation, so it's not like your account is going anywhere. Twisting your words a bit, that might actually be why most people leave. The site doesn't feel like it's going anywhere, and people usually only talk to the people they already talk to. We can act like this doesn't happen, but it pretty much does (Zanderlex is a big exception, he talks to basically everyone no matter what). 3) There's plenty of new people around, I'd say try to know em before you judge the site as a whole. The new people are cool! Refer to point 2 above as to what I think people see in the vet's, though. 4) It's also a gaming site, not just chat purposes. That's possibly another big reason, if not the biggest people may leave. You need it to feel like a community, not just somewhere to play Pokemon Emerald. If we focused on the community, I believe people would be less likely to leave. Just my two cents, I personally don't have any problems - but if I did they'd most likely be these. I've noticed that there have been more and more leaving threads like that since you left, but it's OK. Sometimes it's because few people have talked to them and they feel lonely on the site. Sometimes it's because they just feel like leaving and want to be able to have a reason why. I think most of the time it's because not enough people are welcoming them or talking to them otherwise. I really don't understand why people keep making those threads when they know that it's against the rules. I guess some people will do anything for attention. If I were to have to leave (which there's like a 99% chance that'll never happen), I'd just PM people who made my time on Vizzed more enjoyable than it previously was. I wouldn't make a big scene about it. |
