So apparently this is now a thing....55 years after To Kill a Mockingbird was released, Harper Lee decides to make a second book. Very interesting indeed. I very recently heard about this, and I was quite shocked to be honest. To Kill a Mockingbird is one of those timeless classics, and it would seem very unlikely for there to be a second book considering the way things ended in the first. It would be like making a second Romeo and Juliet , Old Yeller, or Tom Sawyer or something.

I'm not going to spoil it for anyone that hasn't read it, but the purpose of this book is to reveal a darker side of Atticus that wasn't revealed in the prior novel. I have a feeling this will definitely change the way people view the character of Atticus, and the book To Kill a Mockingbird as a whole. I read the first novel in middle school, and I really liked it, but I'm not sure how I would feel about it after reading the second one just based on how it is supposed to make us view Atticus in a whole new light. I'm sure a lot of people much older than me will probably feel the same way after reading this sequel. Atticus symbolizes justice and morality, and I can't imagine how people will perceive such an iconic character in American Literature after reading this.

Those are just my thoughts. What do you think? You can read more about the sequel Go Set a Watchman here
