   Could Ryu and Roy be the next DLC characters in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U? It appears so. In the next-to-latest patch for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS (version 1.0.6), files containing music for Ryu (of Street Fighter fame) and Roy (from Fire Emblem, most famous for being in Super Smash Bros. Melee) have been found. There is also music for Lucas, however he was confirmed as DLC in the April 1, 2015 Nintendo Direct.
   Although nothing is confirmed yet, I am getting my hopes up. Ryu could be an interesting addition to the roster; he has been a staple character in the Street Fighter series (a fighting game) since the beginning. He has plenty of moves to choose from. I can see why some people might find Ryu's likely inclusion a little off-putting, but I am personally hyped.
   Since this was added in the version 1.0.6 update, and wasn't in the original game, I don't think it is a scrapped idea. Capcom originally wanted Ryu in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, in fact. However, Nintendo and Capcom came to an agreement that Mega Man would be in the game. Now, as for Roy, it's not unlikely that he'll be DLC either; but if he is added to the roster, the roster will include five Fire Emblem characters. Besides, Roy is another Marth "clone." Marth, Lucina, and Roy have only a few key gameplay differences. However, if they change Roy to have a more unique moveset, more players may welcome his inclusion.

Nice article. Very well done, and nice and detailed.

I must say, Ryu being in the game seems odd to me, but since it isn't the first time a character like this has been introduced in the series, it kind of works. Can't wait to see a video of him getting beat up by Jigglypuff though. xD I like Ryu, but that would just be a funny sight. lol

Very nicely done, Petraplexity. I personally don't see how Ryu would work or fit in Smash Bros. But if he would be included, that would be pretty big. And the first time he's stepped out of a Street Fighter 2 or 4 rerelease in goodness knows how long.
Roy is already in the game, so why they would just give him his own slot is beyond me. Also, if Roy is REALLY coming back. I hope Sakurai and his team come up with new moves for him. We don't need THREE Marths. Anyway, with the Smash Bros Mini-Direct quickly approaching we can only keep theorizing getting excited.

Ryu isn't as awful as I thought! He's got some pretty cool moves too. And if you know the Street Fighter inputs (Which I don't...) you get some nice buffs! He's got the speed and power of Little Mac, with the jumping power of...Anybody else.

I never played street fighter, but it would be cool to have a actual experienced fighter in the game.

I think Ryu shouldn't even be in Smash and I felt the same way with Snake in Brawl. Even so, Ryu has some good moves and stays true to the Street Fighter way. When using him I feel like I could pull off the combo's that you could do in Street Fighter. Nintendo has done an excellent job with Ryu, let's just hope there are no major glitches like how there was with Mewtwo's release.
