So I went to the ER last week, and had to have X-Rays on my knee. It turns out, about 4 weeks ago, when my left knee started hurting, that I had chipped a bone in my knee somewhere, and did not realize it. So now, there is a small chunk of bone floating around in my knee and the muscles around it wreaking havoc.
I asked my doctor what the best long term solution was, and he said the only solution was surgery. So, I am currently waiting on a call from optmology or something like that.
Wish me luck, guys, because this will take me out of work and making money for at least 2 weeks when I have to have this done.

And for those of you wondering, yes, it is my bad knee with the nerve damage, but the doctor's have no reason to believe that this issue is related to the nerve damage in any way.

I wish you the best of luck with the surgery and with recovering afterward! May it be a speedy recovery, and may you have little or no pain while your knee heals.

I know how it is to be out of work for a few weeks while you heal up after surgery. It's a pain in the butt.

Please, though, do try to not stress about it, and don't
mentally stress yourself while you heal, huh? Keep your leg up and get some rest, no stress. That can make healing take longer, and you don't want that!

Also, little tip for you, if you can use it: Once your stitches and stuff are out and gone, see if you can find yourself some arnica gel. Hylands makes some...if I can find my tube of it....

It's called Muscle Therapy Gel with Arnica. Green tube with a dark blue lid. The stuff works WONDERS. It helps with the bruising, swelling, and stiffness that is inevitable after surgery, and will make you a lot more comfortable. It also helps with scar reduction so you don't wind up with a big shiny spot on your knee. Not a bad thing to have, I think. It doesn't stink, either. It kind of goes on like aloe vera gel that you use when you have sunburns? It's just more of a goopy amber colour. It does help, though. I use it a lot because of some dumb issues with my hands and ankles, and it makes things a lot more bearable. I also used it after I had surgery the last time, and it made a lot of the swelling and bruising go down quickly.

Just don't put it on open wounds, which is why I said that about after you get stitches out. It burrrrrrns then, and it says to not do it ANYWAY, so there's something to it.

Godspeed, and good luck!

Yunimori : Well, I don't know when the surgery will be. I will have to call the VA about it because optmology hasn't called me yet.

I mean, I know I will eventually have to have back surgery because of my back issues, but I wasn't expecting to have to have a knee surgery because of this.

Thanks for the advice.

Oh my. I'm really sorry that this is happening to you. I really hope that the surgery goes well and all will be fine after it and a bit of rest. Do you have any idea on how it chipped in the first place?

LunarDarkness2 : Honestly, no. I think it happened about a week before I moved into my new apartment. So, it either happened while playing with my little brother, his hyperactive Golden Retriever, or possibly some freak accident in my sleep.

It really ticks me off that I don't know how it happened either.
