I absolutely loved this game as a young teen-aged girl! So many memories flood back while I play this game. I never got to "catch 'em all" since I was unfortunately unable to find anybody with the Leaf Green version to trade with me, but none the less, this game is in my top 10 favorites.
There is so much depth in the story it is easy to get lost in the mysteries world of Pokémon, and the traveling around the Kanto region makes you feel like you are on a real adventure. You are ever too old to enjoy Pokémon games!!!
I learned this trick to make a lot of cash pretty fast and to also get a lot of free items: Capture five Meowths when you get the chance, and while leveling up one of your Pokémon in first position, check the Meowths from time to time and they should pick up an item every now and then after some of the battles you and the Pokémon you are leveling up have won. They sometimes pick up rare candies, too, which I think is really awesome! You can even win a bunch of cash by having a Meowth use the "Pay Day" attack continuously in a battle with Pokémon. It is even better if you are battling with another trainer since you will get to use the attack more than you would be able to attack while fighting a weaker wild Pokémon. A trainer who uses a lot of potions would be a good person to battle with and earn more money using the Pay Day attack. If you are planning to use Meowths this way, you want to make sure that they Don't evolve into Persian because they will lose Their Pick Up ability after evolving.
Berries can help you in a pinch, so be sure the save some up and give them to your Pokémon who aren't holding other important items. So many times have my Pokémon almost fainted but survived because they ate a Sitrus berry at the last minute. It is always a good idea to plan before battles. Say if you are about to challenge a gym leader or another trainer whose Pokémon causes a status ailment. You can give your Pokémon berries to heal them from those ailments when they occur and save you from a defeat!
There are a lot of other tricks and secrets I could share, but it's much more fun to figure them out on your own! Explore everything, and don't allow your Pokémon to faint too much! You could miss out on great and important stuff, and if you mistreat your Pokémon it will dislike you for it! No joke! Happy training!
