Hey there, Y'all, it is I Review man. I picked up this game for about $4.99 I had overlooked it many times, but one thing had always caught my eye. Agent of Providence. Come on! Even if you hate the thoughts of the storyline, that is one curiosity provoking title! When I looked at it before, I felt that it would be one of those generic games where you go through a bunch of levels, fight enemies, and whatnot. While i was somewhat correct in my estimation of it, Generator Rex still was not a bad game and threw in some surprises. I mean, seriously...fighting a giant bunny rabbit?! (Yes, this seriously happens...twice!) But trust me the Evo Death Bunny is no cute creature! How about a living tree with viny tentacles? Okay, I'd better get on with the review, before I spill the whole story...

Graphics: 6
The graphics for this game are pretty commonplace for the most part, there are a few games that I can think of that have this generic quality of graphics: Kung Fu Panda and Bolt are two of them. Also there were a couple points where the graphics were slowed and glitched out a bit. Even though everything is pretty average, I had to give them some credit for the just plain wierd and wacky things that you see. Whoa! Swords and axes come out of his arms! Now that's something that you don't see everyday! And it's not often that I find myself running along the bottom of the sea being chased by spine vines, which protect the mother brain--err...creature at the bottom of the sea. Well, it reminds me of mother brain anyway. They certainly knew how to make the villain's hideouts look pretty serious. Oh, and I really did not like those spiders!

Sound: 7
The sound isn't half bad either, they've got some cool sounds and tunes, but I know that they could have done better with the sound effects department. Something they really did well with the sound effects was with the strong saw combo that you can do with the sword like BFS (not sure what that stands for, but I know that is what it is called.) It realistically sounds like a saw. What disappointed me in the same weapon was with the light combo. Every time you strike, it sounds as though a sword has struck metal, which is not a bad sound, but it really is the same thing every single time, even if you do not hit anything! That is the part that I dislike the most. Like the graphics, there were a couple of glitches with the sound, but I cannot remember what they were, but I think that one was an excessive echo, and the other was a delay in the sound that sounded like stuttering. But in all fairness, the song at the beginning (which I think might be the theme song for the tv series) was awesome, and the roaring of the great evos could be terrifying.

Addictiveness: 9
For a game that I beat in about a day's worth of time, it is a lot of fun, and I would like to go back and do some of the things that I have not completed yet. After all, it's just a blast to let that omega nanite loose with a spinning tornado of axes attack! While, slicing and smashing through the enemies can get old, there's something about trying to get that super high combo count that is so much fun. I believe that there is a harder difficulty, if so I am definitely going to try to beat it.

Story: 8
The story, to say the least, is a bit whacky. I am not saying that's a problem, but I am sure that I could have thought of a more logical way of defeating the wierd evo girl that has you trapped in her dimension than smashing up--her creepy dolls? Hmm...seems a little wrong to me
And...a rabbit in central america? Last I looked, that climate was a little too hot for him! (Maybe that explains why he was so cranky!) I have to admit though, it had a few twists and turns that made it intriguing to say the least.

Depth: 8
I think that there were only 10 levels or something like that, but they packed a few challenges. And even after you finish the game, you can still go back and play it through to get the dna samples that you need, and there are also timed challenges that you can do. So, taking into consideration the lack of depth with the way that levels are basically constructed, but keeping in mind the unexpected level in the main hub, and the other bonuses that a lot of games might not have, I think that this is a fair rating.

Difficulty: 8
I only played it through on easy so far, but I think hard would be more challenging. I think that the hardest part in the entire game is the first battle with the evo death bunny, where you really do not have any good attacks. The second time around you have the omega axe build, so it's really a lot easier! After this point in the game, I felt that it got easier instead of harder, basically because I felt as though I was getting more powerful, while the enemies pretty much stayed at the same level of strength and power. Actually, I do remember that wierd evo girl being quite a challenge. (but whoever heard of someone that powerful hiding behind her dolls?) Really, I think the final boss battle was pretty easy, which disappointed me. But I'm taking into account the other difficulty and the time trials as well. So I figure between all that, an 8 is fair.

Overall: 7.9
Generator Rex: Agent of providence is a game that seems pretty average at first with sounds and graphics that are not all that exciting, but it still delivers a surprise or two and even has a cool--even if whacky--story to bring it up a notch. The gameplay is fun and can be a little addicting, and even after you play the game through, it's not over. And really, if you wanted, the replay value could be unlimited...because you can always go back and try to beat your time in the time trials! So, all things considered, Generator Rex still beat my expectations for it and delivers a good game after all.
