Shaman King: Spirit of shamans is a game based on the anime SHAMAN KING, aired on FOX KIDS in 2002 this game was released by Bandai in 2002 and its Playstation exclusive, and its one of the best games for the system (in my opinion) GAMEPLAY: its a fighting game with a roster of 16 characters, at the beginning you start with 4 characters, but while you advance in the story and by certain objectives you unlock more, and there's also mini games in between certain fights MOVESET: while fighting you can do 2 normal attacks that can be used for making combos with the circle and triangle button, a special attack that depends if your moving forward, jumping or stand still with the square button and you can make quicksteps forward or backwards with the L1 or R1 buttons while your fighting, in the left bottom of the screen, your spirit will tell you to push a button, to rack up your OVERSOUL meter, once its up 100% your special attack will have an anime cutscene that's pretty cool to watch your life is divided in 2 parts: and SMP bar and an OPS bar, if you hit your opponent, your OSP bar will go down, and once its all the way down, your SMP bar will go down a little and your OSP bar will be full again, you must do this until your SMP bar goes all the way down GAME MODES: there are 6 different game modes that I will describe now -story mode: tells the story of the anime from the beginning to the ¿end?, this is the worst aspect about the game, because the story is incomplete!, there are several important parts of the anime that not mentioned here, a lot of unused characters and the ending is a total cliff hanger, anyway, in the story mode what you do is that you play as the main character Yoh asakura in his 3 forms (normal, oversoul and oversoul 2) and you fight with the main characters of the show(ryu,Tao ren, horo horo, chocolove, lyserg, faust VIII, silva, Tao Jun and Marco) and at the end you fight the main villain Hao and his Spirit of fire, theres also some cutscenes that narrated the story in dialog boxes -arcade: the name says it all, you have random encounters with all the characters (depending if you unlocked them) and at the end your scored -survival:same thing as arcade but the difference is that you can only lose one time (one round) -versus:is a one on one fight, it can be played alone or multiplayer -3-man: a versus mode with a team of 3 character per player -Anna's training: it's a section in which you play the mini games that you beaten in the story, this vary like a race of button mashing, an oversoul test in which you need to press the buttons indicated on the bottom left, a slash test in which you need to cut the logs that appear on the left, right or center of the screen, and a quiz with question from the show GRAPHICS: the graphics are sweet, it really shows the 2D capabilities of the PSX, all the models are super details with smooth animations, and theres also some 3D models that they are....meh MUSIC: the music is GOD AMAZING, is full with catchy rock, oriental, flute, electronic and epic themes that its a joy to listen
overall its a great, fun and addictive game, but the lack of a full story ruins it from being amazing, I recommend it to all anime and specially shaman king fans
OVERALL: 8.5
