For a really long time, all the way up until 2014, The Day After Tomorrow was my favorite movie of all time. I know almost nobody would say this, but to me, this is one of just a few perfect movies because it's just so good. I love a good disaster movie, and I love a good disaster movie with a good story, effects and more, and this movie had it all. I must have seen it dozens of times and I never got bored of it because it's one of the most fun movies to watch.
The movie itself is about global disaster happening all around the world but the story of the movie revolves around Sam Hall and his friends being trapped in New York City as all sorts of disaster strikes the world. To stay alive, they hide in the main library and hide out there as Sams father tries to make it to New York to be with him. The story itself hold a ton of drama and many action and suspense filled scenes, and that only really takes up half of the movie. Once you get passed the story, there's a bunch of scenes that have nothing to do with the main story but just make the movie itself much better, whether it's giant tornadoes, hail storms, or much more. I pretty much love every single second of this movie, there is never a single boring scene when you are watching this.
The movie has some pretty good acting, and now I guess I am a pretty big fan of Jake Gyllenhaal. Two of my five favorite movies of all time star Gyllenhaal, the other being Prisoners and I just really like his acting. Gyllenhaal plays Sam while Dennis Quaid, who has appeared in many movies, plays his father. The movie also stars Emmy Rossum and Sela Ward, and I would say that all the actors did a really neat job with their performances.
I don't really think that there was that much music in the movie, and of all the ones that were in there, there aren't really any ones that are catchy. Aside from the music though, there were a ton of great sound effects to simulate a deadly storm and in terms of sound, I would say that this was good enough.
The effects of the movie is really what made the movie so beautiful because well, it's a disaster movie.Every single disaster looked so awesome, in Los Angeles, you get to see dozens of tornadoes flying around the city and massive billboards flying all over as well as incredible amounts of destruction. In New York City you have floods and ice, and everything looks beautiful thanks to the effects department.
It's not my favorite movie of all time anymore, two movies of 2014 have both passed this one bu it is still one of my favorites and I will probably always love this one because it's so beautiful to watch an should go down as one of the best disaster movies in history.
