Ok, I know they will be a lot of questions going to be asked related to this, but I have watched Back to the Future II and seen all the crazy predictions that will happen in the year 2015, but remember, that was in 1989 *which all make crazy ideas about the future), but fast forward 26 years later in 2015 (in real life).

Has Back of the Future II been pretty accurate with on how 2015 will be or is this all just a work of Science Fiction?

To me, personally, I don't think much of anything changed between 1989 to 2015 (other than the Soviet Union collapsing), we don't have flying cars yet, nor hoverboards (although attempts are being made for these and they all failed), so I think they wasn't that too accurate with the prediction.

IgorBird122 : I actually read in a magazine that someone actually created a hoverboard that floats about 1 inch above a metal surface, and people can even move it around and stand on it.

however it is nothing like the one in back to the future so....

yea.

but my answer is no, that 2015 was nothing like this 2015.

I kind of find this funny how I thought about this question. The 2015 in back to the future II is nothing that looks like the 2015 of today in our world. I think maybe it will happen late of some sort in my opinion. Things like that will take more time. So it will have more years to come with the high teck stuff and whatnot. :/

yoshirulez! :
Eniitan : Yeah, this is only January 1st and the movie setting took place in September I think, so we got like another 9 months to see if this is in fact true or not. I have seen that most of the things has happened (although in an alternative way), but others seem like it's too far in the future, We won't know. All we can say is wait and see this year if it's all fact or just science fiction.

In back to the future they have instant hydrate foods, flying cars, hover boards, 3d advertisements, fingerprints are used as home security, live video chats (we have this), and servers were computers.

While not directly on the money with how 3d tech is we do have extremely impressive 3d tech compared to what they had in 1989. We use fingerprints as PHONE security. If you have been to a supermarket at any time in the past 7 years you should notice that we do in fact have computers as servers all over the place. If you watch the family dinner scene in the film you notice how the kids have their "phones" on them the whole time (google glasses maybe?). All the appliances are voice activated (siri). Of course if you look at things that are energy inefficient like flying cars we don't have it, but the film did get a lot of things right.

IgorBird122 : It's all a work of science fiction of course. Flying cars and hoverboards don't exist and I don't see them being around any time soon. It would be awesome to be able to ride in a flying car though.

gamerforlifeforever2 : That would be quite amazing to ride in a flying car, but personally, I don't think that'll be a reality, at least not in the short run, maybe in 2115 or so, then yeah, but in 9 - 10 months, I really don't see flying cars happening anytime soon. Even if flying cars exist, they will cost so much, no one, even the rich can afford. That might be my 2 cents on the flying cars thing.

Even as optimistic as I am, even I know that flying cars at this point in time is just impractical. Not until we realize how to properly counter the gravity of the Earth in a energy efficient manner. I am just glad no one mentioned the practicality of the Time Machine in the equation. Even though the movie itself is science fiction, a lot of devices have come about from such ideas. From star Trek we have miniature cell phones as opposed to the big bulky boxes. WE have Tablets, also from Star Trek. The world is in a technology race that hasn't happened since the race to the moon. If we are going to have flying cars and such, I would say it will occur within the next 50-100 years. We will see a lot of proto-type concepts in our time, but they won't be world wide. But once one emerges, it will be only a matter of time till it becomes common place. Same thing happened with regular cars. When they first became available to the world, only the rich could have them. Now even the poor can have them to use. So, I feel it is just a matter of time.
Though I am sure we will see the hover boards long before the flying cars. The hoverboards will be a major step towards the cars and be a stepping stone that the cars will utilize.
That is just my two cents.
Sorry IG, had to use that hahaha

The main thing people think about are flying cars and hoverboards. But what about the weird sense of fashion and the holographic 3D advertisements? Fashion has definitely changed, but the only "futuristic" thing we've gotten are hoverboards. They're not popular at all, in fact I don't think you can even buy them. But scientists made an actual hoverboard a few months ago, so I guess they got one thing half right so far. Who knows, maybe they will be popular by the time October comes around this year?

Since Back to the future came out we  made a lot of technological advances I think there prediction of the future is kind of accurate in some small ways I just think its off by a few years the world may look more and more like that movie in the next 20 years from now minus the flying cars I think its gonna be a long time before we get that although I have heard something about somebody building a prototype (kind of like a airplane) but I can't see the mass public being able to handle it as I can imagine crazy/drunk people not flying them responsibly even worse then what driving is now

Cmon, really? It's only February! Jeez, give them 7 months and we'll have a base on Mars terra-forming the place or something.

Honestly I never got how flying cars would work. I guess they can just be used to limit money on bridges, make it so there can be a path of cars going one way and above them cars flying to the left, but would there be a good traffic system? What would define the road where cars fly? I imagine there couldn't be a free range system, otherwise it'd be like walking to your first class in the morning... but with jet-propelled cars. SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY! So yeah, the only limit to mass-producing flying cars I'd say is developing floating road signs and holographic trails.

The thing is, we have the technology and ability to make most of those things in the movie. For example, flying cars are creatable, and we've made very effective prototypes. But what the movie (and what most futuristic movies) got wrong is how COMMONPLACE these things would be.

It's one thing to have the technology to do something, and another to market it, mass-produce it, and it catch on.

It's a depressingly inaccuriate view of 2015. While these things are a possibility, we still have tons of work before anything from that movie is possible for the common man.
On another note, why is it movies no longer view the future like this one does? What if the world doesn't get nuked in 10 years from now? Almost all the movies from 200-onward would be just as inaccurate as this one's view.
