Ah, Sonic Advance. The first game that Sega released on a Nintendo console.  I can imagine, this is how people reacted when they first heard of this news. "Wut dat's nut Sonik where's Sonik!?" However, if you just take the time to actually play through this game, you will see that it's quite enjoyable.  Some even go so far as to compare this to the original Sonic games on the Sega Genesis. So, without further ado, let's get started.

Graphics: 9
For one of the earliest Game Boy Advanced games, being released in 2001, these graphics were outstanding back then for a handheld. Sadly, the graphics haven't aged well compared to today's standards. But, that's to be expected, right? Sometimes, I look at Sonic running around, and I can't help but feel like I see a pixel or two fly off of him. But, maybe it's just me.

Sound: 8
This section is similar to the Graphics section above. The music in this game was amazing back in the day, but it hasn't aged very well, in my opinion.  Again, maybe it's just me, but I think the music gets jumbled up a bit sometimes.

Addictiveness: 9
This game is EXTREMELY addictive. I remember when I was 4 years old, and I was playing this on every single road trip my family went on. Even though I only used Tails because I thought he was the best, it was still very addicting. If you start playing this game, beware, it will eat you up.

Story: 6
I've never really been to fond of the story in Sonic Advance.  The story is as follows.  Doctor Eggman obtains a Chaos Emerald and threatens to rule the world with it, so Sonic and friends go off to stop him. That's pretty much it. Nothing more. You see, I like my stories to be a bit more complicated sometimes. But, hey, if it works, it works.

Depth: 5
The depth of this game may seem a bit low. You only have 4 characters and each with about 7 zones. This may seem like a lot, but usually you breeze through all of the acts in this game.  Even 4 year old me was able to do it. Even so, this is still a sort of lengthy game, due to the collecting of the Chaos Emeralds.

Difficulty: 7
Depending on which character you're playing as, the difficulty differs. Ha, you see what I did there?  The four main characters you can play as are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. Sonic is usually the average difficulty, good for intermediate players. I see Tails as the beginner's choice, because I only played as Tails when I was a kid. Knuckles can also be paired up with Tails' difficulty, but to a slightly higher level. Now, Amy is definitely for hardcore players. She has no spin jump, and the only way to damage enemies is to use her hammer.

Overall: 8
Despite all the flaws this game may seem to have, it still is a great game to play.  Sure, it may not have aged well, but that doesn't mean the game sucks. I would definitely recommend this game to any Sonic fan, or gamer in general. And, with that, I end my review.

Very good review, The games on game boy that has to do with Sonic the Hedgehog will always remind me of the Sonic RPG, it was a good game, but paled in comparison to the legendary Mario RPG, which in my opinion was what they were trying to go for there. And really they should have tried for there own interpretation for it, if they did that then it would have been a really wonderful game. But what we got it was just ok, the controls for it were mediocre at best, the sound was okay, a bit annoying at times. The controls were good, but very similar to Mario RPG. The story was sub par at best, where Mario RPG would blow that Sonic story out of the water. The only redeeming quality was the battle sequences it was smooth, not as smooth as Mario RPG, but was smoother than other games for that system. Usually I do like Sonic games, especially the early one's, but Sonic RPG was sub par at best. In terms of Sonic Advance though I really liked that game, it brought back memories for me of the old sega game gear era, the simplistic controls, but fun though.
