Sonic 1 is an awesome game, from speeding around Green Hill Zone to drowning in Labyrinth hell, it's the best game SEGA decided to make. I ,personally, enjoy the game and constantly play it on Vizzed. I have also tried to beat the record in Green Hill Zone, but I'm not that good.

Graphics {8}
They may not be too good on the system, with the sequels improving the graphics, but they were still great for the system back then. Everything was colored to exact color, no messing about with the colors, making it look stupid. Sonic's sprites were good, slightly changed in 2 and greatly changed in 3. In this game, he was a grayish-blue color with big black eyes. The trees, plants and flowers in Green Hill were great, making the place look alive with their movements. The backgrounds were good, with the background moving smoothly, similar to a backdrop in real life. Labyrinth Zone looks like an underground ruin, with vines hanging about and traps waiting to catch Sonic. Starlight is like a highway level with lights, buildings in the background, some still in construction. Overall the graphics were at the best for the game's time.

Sound {7}
Sound was interesting, with jumping sounds that sounded like a cartoon, to spins that sounded like a machine. The sound was addictive, with music that would interest you and sounds. Hitting badniks made a POOF, so did item boxes and the capsule at the end of the first five zones. Eggman also had some POOFs when you defeated him. All in all, Sound is great in this game, yet there is not much to go over here.

Addictiveness {8}
This game will make you want to play over and over again. With fun zones, goals, lives, secrets and chaos emeralds to be found. Also you may try to race your friends to see who is the fastest thing alive in Sonic 1. The game is also long, so you will play on and on, trying to foil Dr. Robotnik for the first time. Although, unlike the sequels, the game isn't that much fun after the first play-through. It can get boring after a long time, due to the repetitiveness of the game, also how linear it is. But it was way more addictive back then, than it is now.
Story {7}
The story is good, a hedgehog finds that an evil scientist has captured all the animals. He has turned them into badniks, now Sonic must rescue the animals, find the mysterious chaos emeralds and defeat the evil scientist. There are two endings, which make you replay to see the other. The story still could be expanded upon, with events happening as the game progresses, but nobody cared back then.

Depth {7}
The game is fairly long, with three acts in six zones, plus a final zone. But the sequel had expanded upon so much, making this game seem like baby steps. It was baby steps. They were trying to make a simple, awesome debut game for their new mascot. The game has a lot to do, such as complete the game, finish all special stages, find secrets and more. But it's still shorter than it's sequel and the third game in it's
complete form. Despite this, many people still enjoy this classic. At least it's easier to finish the game!

Difficulty {5}
This game is not that hard if you think about it. It may and will be hard for the new player, but it gets fairly easier the more you play. Some people may not be used to the style of gameplay Sonic has. Speeding about in a long level, doing puzzles, collecting rings to increase your health. It's still easy when compared to Sonic 2 and 3, but some may disagree, I'm ok with that, as long as we all know how they are slightly harder/easier than each other. Sonic 1 is a fair game, no unfair jumps, puzzles or hazards.

Overall {7}
Overall, this game is a great game. I recommend you to play it, you'll have great fun. I have played it lots of times, as I've said before. It's great to play this game, it's one of the golden games of the system. If you really enjoyed Sonic 2 and/or 3&K, I recommend you to play this game. The classics are mostly the best, the sequels are the ones that improve. This my review for this awesome game. I hope you have as much fun as I did, you may want to share your opinion on it like me! Come on, I know you want to hit that play game button!

Crazylad : I have actually played this game a few times on vizzed, but I have never really dedicated much time to it. You did a really good review on this, and it makes me want to get back into it almost. I probably would, if it were not for the Tour de vizzed.
