Wait, what? Percy Harvin got traded? To the Jets? I mean, I know he hasn't done much this year, and that the Jets need all the help they can get from talented guys, but for just a conditional mid-rounder? What in the world?

Here is the article that I found: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000412483/article/why-did-the-seahawks-trade-percy-harvin-to-the-jets?campaign=Facebook_atn_rosenthal

Seahawks have realized three truths with this trade.

1. They are not the super power that everyone thought they would be, coming off a Super Bowl.

2. Harvin's contract sucks. He's an elite guy, but is paid farrrr too much.

3. They need to free up salary to sign Lynch, Wilson, et all to new contracts.

They are doing this to fix the long term mess they created when they gave Harvin that contract.

Waste of a first round pick, but at least they got something out of it.

Yeah, I was a little surprised when I first heard this, too. Its very strange with such a huge deal taking place mid - season. Even though Percy Harvin's contract is a big one, the Jets have the option to cut him at the end of 2014, and not owe him anything. After the loss last night to the Patriots, it seems the Jets are desperate to get their season back on track. Its hard to believe Seattle gave up a 1st, 3rd, and 7th round pick to get him...then they paid him with that contract...and he only played in 10 games with the Seahawks.

Obviously, Seattle felt that Percy wasn't playing at the level they thought he would when they paid him. And apparently, the Seahawks have been shopping Harvin for a few weeks now. There is also a rumor going around that he is not a very good locker room guy. He is also averaging the lowest yards per catch out of any receiver in the league with at least 5 catches.

But I can see why Seattle let him go, and why the Jets wanted to get him. Harvin will no doubt give the Jets a better chance to evaluate QB Geno Smith, since there will probably be some changes in the next offseason for New York. But the Jets possibly could've done this a little sooner, losing 6 straight games before getting him.

I'm pretty late on this topic and you guys have pretty much stated all the facts.  I just want to add a few things.  Seattle hasn't been very healthy beyond the few players that everyone in the country knows.  The supporting cast has been dealing with injuries for quite some time now.

Already having one of the more difficult schedules (rightfully so) and then dropping a game to the Rams didn't help.  Still, after all this, we sit at 5-3 and control our own destiny.  The #1 seed doesn't look very likely but I don't think Arizona is really FOR REAL so we'll see about that.  San DIego and Dallas both outplayed Seattle and I give total props to those teams.  The Rams outcoached Seattle, which made me sick, so they deserve props as well.

Despite my team's difficulties halfway through, I'm really enjoying this season.  I guess finally getting a SB win really takes some stress off.  LOL.  The Seahawks have that mentality where they love to be challenged/doubted and they're only going to get better as they get some of their key roleplayers healthy again.  The rest of the schedule is brutal though and we may be too late to win the division.  GO HAWKS!!!    And good luck to all of your guys teams.
