999 CP is the Limit per a CP Action

The most CP you can earn for an individual CP Action is 999. This means that Guides that are 10,000+ words wont earn you any extra CP so if you want to get full credit for massive Guides, try to break them down into separate guides. For example, instead of making an all in 1 Walkthrough, break it into a General Walkthrough, Character Guide, Enemy Guide, Item Guide, etc.

Not happy to hear this. Not all Guides can be broken down into smaller ones, unless you do part 1, part 2 and so on, I'm not a fan of breaking down Guides into different parts, no matter how big a Guide is, it will be easier to find whatever you need to find in a single post, as long as you can explain yourself minimally well. But, since it's that time of the year, does this only apply for TdV months, or will it be permanent from now on? |

EX Palen : 999 CP is still a ton of CP though and still really great compared to how it use to be. I personally think that some guides are too big and it makes them harder to navigate when they're too big. Plus, really big guides can potentially slow down the page and even put strain on the server.
The main Walkthrough would be used for directing the user where to go but could also provide links to the the additional parts. I can't imagine too many Walkthroughs exceeding 10,000 words that couldn't be broken down. I should also point out that the 999 CP limit has always been the limit, I only realized that it was the limit recently and kinda liked that it was the limit. This shouldn't matter when it comes to your monthly quota though since that's only 200 CP, if anything this might make it easier to reach your quota. If you were to make a really big walkthrough and broke it down into parts, you could release each part once a month, just as long as the parts made sense. If users absolutely hate this idea this then I could raise it to 9999. zanderlex : I talked with him about it already. Davideo7 : I must agree with the fact that not many Walkthroughs exceeding 10k words can't be broken down. However, I'm currently working on one of them, and I can't see it broken down into two or more parts. Davideo7 : If my calculations are correct, the CP limit starts at around 12,500 words. That's quite a lot, even in a one-shot Guide it would be difficult to get up to that number. True is that it's not impossible, but the time needed to play a game to such an extent, to pay attention to any detail and then write down the Guide itself it's beyond some users capabilities. You have to I'm aware I'm perfectly able to break the limit of the CP as it is right now, capped at 999. So, as the first interested in this post, I'm also the first to say that I want the limit to be upgraded, even if it is just for one month, or just one day, to establish my personal record. Davideo7 : I don't mind this idea. But that's for those who can do a complete guide. At times I can just to push myself further of breaking my recent record. And in a way ex does have a point. It can also motivate users or game guide makers to break a previous persons record, instead of splitting their guide into two or three. I like to do a complete guide. Whereas. I also like to split my guides, IF it is necessary to do so for any reason. There's like hmm...1 walkthrough that I have done. But, that hasn't broken my previous record yet. Due to it being a short game that I did. Whereas normally I do a long walkthrough. Due to a long game a play which I mostly do. When I make a guide, I would like to think of the people. And how it is easier for them to read, instead of myself. some can prefer break down walkthroughs to read on, while some don't. In any case people will keep on doing guides how they want it to be, and that's a fact. I'm gonna summon the gang here for them to see this. And also to give their own opinion of it. I'm fine with that. I usually do walkthroughs which don't have 10000+ words (except for The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX which is the longest and probably one of the best walkthroughs I've ever done so far, regarding the quality). So yeah, I really don't mind, since most of the time, for side stuff, I do some extra parts |

I don't know.. I actually like the idea. People don't tend to like reading a whole lot anyways, and they more than likely skim the guides for whatever help they need. I think breaking them up... even by 'parts' that are not categorized... would benefit most people. For one, it's more 'content' added to vizzed. To someone inexperienced with vizzed seeing two or three lengthy pieces for a game..... is more impressive than seeing one really, really, really long piece. It can make vizzed look even more active, and like vizzed contributors care even more about the site. |

As I mentioned, I probably will not go for that record at this point. It will involve a lot of time, video recording, multiple playthroughs of games that take a ton of hours to play through, gameplay recording, hours of research, and many more hours of writing. At this point, I don't think 999 CP is quite worth that effort to me.
I may try to submit one, and just split it into a ton of parts, but I honestly have no idea how I would split it up, lol. I might just wait until the January TdV, and hopefully I can find a sensible way to split it up by then. tl;dr - 999 CP isn't worth the hours and hours of effort my plans would require, at least not to me. I'll try to split it up, but it'll take a bunch more time and I probably won't post it until January. Eniitan : I quit as staff, just so you're aware. Personally, I've always contributed my game guides because I felt like I was doing a service for the community. Personally, I've never cared about building the game guide based on it's Viz and CP limit. Truth is, if you do the work, you should be rewarded accordingly. Are 12k+ game guides worth more than 1k CP? I'm assuming that quality is not going to be as much a concern after that point, it might become more a matter of finishing it rather than maintaining constant quality. I recently submitted my Suikoden 1 game guide that took many hours of time to build, many of which were caused by gamer's block. I wasn't able to determine how I wanted to build my guide because of the game's size and many features. I actually split this guide into sections (At least on the inside of the whole guide) but when I build my Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars guide, I couldn't split that guide into parts unless I did it based on the Stars or regions of the world (I never actually completed that guide). Here's my problem with this thread... David, nothing against you but it saddens me to see you running around these threads literally saying "If you do 1 hour's worth of work you earn X CP and X Viz" then want to maintain a limit on our work. Game Guides are no easy task and there's many ways to build a game guide, especially since you can't always build them the same way due to their genre. Game Guides were made to earn the most CP and Viz because of their difficulty to build and write. Even so, do you even know how hard it is to fit an entire game into a 10k word post? I can write out a basic guide with the basic details to complete the game. Unfortunately, game guides need to written out in a way players can easily understand, otherwise, you're no better off than having no game guide to use. Many of the words in, at least, my game guides are used to describe each situation or moment in the game so players know what time and/or event to follow. I could write: do this, do that, do the other, go back and do this again, etc. To eliminate and shorten a game guide. That, however, takes away from it's quality. Honestly, if you max a game guide at 1000 CP, you might find a 70% game guide in 1 thread and a 30% in another thread. I wouldn't want to contribute anything that isn't going to earn CP. I'm unsure of how many CP I actually earned from my latest game guide but it read to me like I earned 2000 CP and my CP counter went above 10k, when it was near 8k. Idk when a limit was introduced but it wasn't introduced when I completed my guide. I dislike this proposal, instead, just let it be. Davideo7 : Normally, we really don't want to see people post multiple walkthroughs during TdV time because it could spam up the whole TdV, I really don't know about the whole thing exactly, this was mostly rcarter2's idea, I just went along with it. But other than that, I do like to see the maximum CP amount get extended to 9,999 CPs, this will be a great idea, Personally, its impossible for someone to get to 9,999 CPs in a day, even tRUINE himself won't be able to get that much in a day. IgorBird122 : The plan that I had come up with, and that I discussed with David, involved me building game guides that would have resulted in approx. 12k CP each. Yes, that's a lot of writing, but I have already started. So, with this limit, we're talking about just 1/12th of the CP for the same amount of work (in my scenario, at least). |

Well, I don't suppose I have any problems with this change. I do have a question, though. Quoting David, "I personally think that some guides are too big and it makes them harder to navigate when they're too big. Plus, really big guides can potentially slow down the page and even put strain on the server." Davideo7: What is the max amount of words and/or characters a guide should be, so they don't slow down the page too much or strain the server?
