Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go through a Portal, me neither. (lol) Okay, but have you ever wanted to play a game, with an amazing story, cool puzzles, and humor? I have. Jump with me into the world of Portal, the game where murderous GladdOS tries to kill you, and Wheatly, a smart (haha, sorry I couldn't say that with a straight face.) "helps" you.
The game has rather fun lines, like this one, "When life gives you Lemons, DON'T MAKE LEMONADE!" Cave Johnson. (The founder of Aperture Science, and the person who made the comment I just mentioned.)
Plot or Story: 10/10 The game has an involving story, that is very well written, it has humor, danger, and even a cool boss battle at the end! The story takes place in the Half-Life world but is years after the two games, this is, as you may have guessed, the sequel to Portal. After you have defeated GladdOS in the previous game, remember "Cake is a Lie." (This is from the first game.) you have been put in suspended animation for a few years. You awaken when the world seems to be collapsing. Wheatley comes in, on a rail, your room, he drives your room to a new location and there is where your story starts! You will have to play the game to get more, briefly summed up, the story IS AWESOME!!!
Graphics: 8/10 Compared to the first game, the graphics haven't really changed, they did add new elements, but they didn't change the visuals (This is my opinion.) much. The graphics are REALLY good, but I have seen games with better graphics. They have done a good job of animating everything, so that one can't see the blocks that make up computer images. The portals that you shoot are also well done, as you can see through them, into the other portal.
Controls/ Gameplay: 7/10 The game controls rather smoothly, but I did like that you could release the objects you grab (In the first game) with the "shoot" button. They did fix some of the issues they had with the first game, the objects don't fly when you release them, as in you drop them instead of throwing them. You also have improved aiming, I view it as slightly more accurate then in the first Portal game.
Sound/ Music: 6/10 The songs are okay, if you like electronic music, I liked the song from the first game, Still Alive, but they didn't make the song at the end better, but they did make an okay song. I don't really like the songs in this game, it wasn't annoying, but it wasn't my kind of music. They changed the sounds in the game, the portal gun doesn't make as loud of a sound when you shoot them. The grabbing sound sounds more like lightning, you grab stuff using the portal gun (Buy the game for this explanation.) so that is good.
Depth: 9/10 I think the game is very cool, it is hard to stop playing, because of the interesting story, difficult puzzles, and the characters. Valve Software did an amazing job at designing a masterpiece. With a 9-11 hour campaign, a level designer, and a multiplayer campaign, you have much to do!
Difficulty 8/10 The game has MANY hard puzzles, they are well done, they have cool designs, and amazing concepts! The puzzles take a little longer than the ones in Portal, but that is good. I enjoyed the challenge of the game. Some puzzles are easy enough you can run right through it with little to no difficulty, but at that point you are just starting!
Addictiveness: 9/10 This is one of the coolest games I have played in a while Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go through a Portal, me neither.
