I've been writing since I was young and I've gotten inspiration from many sources. Early on I would read a book or play a game and come up with my own plot for it as I went along, then forgot the book and wrote my own story. When I got into my teens I started having really funky dreams for multiple reasons and based some stories off of those. Later I got the itch to write but didn't know what to write, so I turned to online generators for ideas. Lately I've been hearing ideas from other people's works and that often spawns an idea in my head that I use, but I spin it in a way that it is more or less original. For example, I read a short story about bad animals to turn into on a full moon (weregoldfish? weresnail?) and turned it into a romance/satire about a weresalmon and a werebear.

What about you guys? Where do your ideas come from?

I usually write with a purpose. For example, my band is working on a concept album, so I write a story about that world we are creating. I was part of a RP thread, so I wrote a story about my character. I need motivation, a little help to get started.

Hmm....thats a good question for me...I get everything from my feelings...like my heart tells me what to write, and says for the good of it. For instance if I want to make, a love story, an epic one or other things as well...

I am usually inspired by a story, from a game, or Anime- okay, Sonic X.

Pictures also inspire me, usually made by other people, but I usually just running outside down a slight decline at max speed, the excitement and ideas run through my head like a river as I am one with the soul and the wind that blows free.

For stories, I typically find inspiration in music. I'll start listening to a song, and a story for the song will just pop into my head, and I develop it from there. However, I did write a story based on a single picture once; I saw the boy in the picture and gave him a name, age, personality, background, best friend, and more. It was actually a school project...that I did for someone else. But it turned out to be fun, and easy to write for.

As for writing songs, I just get inspiration from life experiences and how they make me feel, which is why most of my songs are written in the first person.

I get inspiration from many different things. People have already said most of mine, but here I go anyway. Where I get inspiration from differs if I'm just starting out or if I'm stuck in the middle and just got re-inspired and know what I want to add next. Sometimes when I'm starting out it comes from a dream or a picture I've seen. I think what would be the background of that? Then I'm off and running. When I get stuck and have writers block sometimes music helps because it gives a mood to the scene I'm writing and then I have an idea that comes to me for where to go next. Sometimes I go people watching, and that can be when I want to write a new story or when I'm stuck. For a new story I usually say to watch people go by and look for someone that looks interesting and then give them a background and a story starts to form. If I am already writing one and I'm stuck, I look for someone that looks like they would fit into my story and ask myself why would they be there? What would they be doing, and I usually get an idea on how to keep going.

When I used to write, I'd get inspiration from plays, movies, and TV shows.

I loved to take something very visual and create the same effects using words. I wasn't that good at writing, but I'd like to think that I got better. The most important thing to me is the attention of the audience. I feel that if my writing isn't enjoyable enough to make someone read my entire piece, then I haven't written well enough. That is the biggest factor I consider when writing.
