Movie: Street Dreams Alright, so, before I begin my review, this movie is complete free, and it is not uploaded by some random guy either. They have movies that you can pay to watch on YouTube. This one just so happens to be free. A warning though for our younger generation: This movie has language, so get your parent's permission before you check it out. So, this movie is pretty much about a guy named Derrick Cabera. He dreams of being sponsored, just like every other skater does, and to hopefully one day go pro. He definitely has the talent to go pro, too, he just does not have the support required, other than from his friends. After some family issues and getting arrested one time, he runs off with his skater friends to the Annual Tampa Am Contest. But one of those friends tries to screw him over out of jealously. They are basically jealous because he getting so good that he might be considered better than the friend. He ends up qualifying first out of 6 groups divided from about 120 people, if I recall correctly. He ultimately places 5th overall in the finals, pretty much because like a lot of serious skaters in a big competition, and for him it is, as this is his first, also knowing that he might be able to get a sponsor if he does well, he wants that one trick, but just can not hit it. This movie features Paul Rodrigues, Rob Dyrdek and Ryan Scheckler, skaters that are definitely worth giving a look up on YouTube, even if you are not a fan of skateboarding. Cinematography: 7 out of 10. I actually found this movie on accident while searching YouTube a few days ago for some random stuff to watch, and I added this to my watch later list, and it turned out to be a decent watch. The amount of detail that skaters have to put into their tricks, and all the times they must have bailed while trying to the crazy stuff during filming much have been crazy hard. The camera guys did a real good job on this. A solid 7. Sound: 6 out of 10. There is a lot of language in this video. I mean, some of my friends are skaters, but the amount of language for this movie is kind of sad ( hence why Iput the disclaimer about it up at the top of the review ) However, the quality for YouTube is not half bad. I had it hooked up to my television with an HDMI cable so I could lay back and watch it, so course I had to jack the volume up, but still for a movie YouTube, it was pretty good. I give it an overall of 6 out of 10. Re-watch-ability: 6 out of 10. This movie is not part of a series, so that hurts is rating. If you read my last review, you will know that I am in love with movies that are part of series. However, this is a movie that I would not mind watching again, as I did have to pause it a few times for various reasons. Also, my skater friends have not seen this movie in a few years ( I actually asked them for advice for this review ), and they said they would totally come and crash at my place to watch the movie for a few hours some day. The fact that I have friends to watch this movie with gets it an 6 out of 10, even if it is not part of a series. Depth: 7 out of 10. The depth of this movie goes deep for a skater movie. When I first saw the title, I thought it was just going to be a documentary on a local area of street skaters. I was pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be a story about a kid that was having issues with family not giving him the support he needed or wanted to achieve his dream. The way the movie played out was very well done. I give this a solid 7 out of 10. Story: 8 out of 10. Note: See Depth. Pretty much covered it up there once again. Audience: 4 out of 10. Sadly, I have to give this movie a 4 out of a 10 in the audience department. While there is sure to be your occasional viewer who might like skater movies or stuff like this, this movie was mainly geared towards skaters and people who are into BMX, MotoCross… I will just say the X Games fans, for lack of a better term. Overall: 7.0 out of 10. The movie was overall a pretty good one for me. I think even the casual fan could enjoy this movie if they gave it an open thought. As always, feel free to leave constructive criticism, and if you have a request, be sure to let me know, and i will consider it.
