Paper Mario Sticker Star, a game that I have really enjoyed playing. It's a slight bit different form the previous Paper Mario games, and that's what I like about it. Not everyone can stick to the same thing forever, that's why they add new things to games. the new thing to this game is stickers. It does add a little bit more to the game since you have attacks, but you have a limited amount of them and a limited amount of space for attacks. Paper Mario Sticker Star is not the most challenging game, but it takes more thinking than you'd think.?
___ Let's start by talking about the graphics. They aren't exactly realistic, but they definitely got a paper detail good. In the beginning of the game after the Bowser Attack, you find yourself crumpled up. Being crumpled up is obviously one of the many details reminding you that this entire world is made of paper, except for the final phase of the final boss, who is made out of cardboard instead. Some things have little designs like that. When buildings are being made you can see them get folded together out of paper materials. When you step into Decalburg at the beginning of the game you will even find it rolled up. You have to gather all the Toads so that they can push it back out, sort of like rolling out a carpet. Even stickers have their own special designs, since there's three types of stickers, (normal, shiny, and flashy) they each have their own designs. Normal stickers have nothing special to them, just a plain old sticker. But a shiny sticker appears more, well, shiny. Flashy stickers have a rainbow-ish background and it sparkles just like a shiny sticker. You may notice that some bosses have the same color design as a flashy sticker. Take a look. There's also the 3-D effect that's in act with this game. During the Bowser attack at the beginning, Bowser makes a dark wind and apparently the 3-D in that scene is really good.
___ Next up, sound. None of the music was very memorable except for the boss theme in world 3. It doesn't sound good at first, but it gets better when you use a sponge against him. Hear a familiar tune? Nintendo remixed the Super Mario Bros. theme and it's now better than ever. I really enjoyed listening to the song, it is actually inspirational now that you're actually really hurting the boss and he can't do a thing to you. Then there's the Bowser Jr. battle theme. I think that the music kind of fits for someone like Bowser Jr. There's also Petey Pirahna's theme. It's not a bad boss theme, but there's just something about it. Then there's the final battle with Bowser. It's kind of good, I wouldn't listen to it all day though. but then it gets better as Bowser goes into Phase 2. At that point, it seems like all is lost. But Kersti let's you use him ( or her, i really don't know ) as a sticker. It's unexpected, and there's a really cool song to go with it. One I could listen to all day. I have always been a fan of the Star theme, but I don't think I'll ever hear a better remix like this one. What an inspirational song, very fitting for how close you are to the end.
____ Now, addictiveness. I really like this game, so I played it a lot. Sometimes it was puzzling and I had to go and find the right things to turn into stickers. I never did figure out what to use against the first boss until very recently, turns out it's scissors. But the music, the puzzles. I never even finished the museum. I would definitely play this game again though. I just love how battling works and how many scavenger hunt-ish missions there are. I would go for a game of snifit or whiff it any day. Just listening to the music right now actually wants to make me play the game. This time I'll do it the proper way ( I had trouble with the big boo boss in the mansion level, my friend told me I had to use spike helmets to defeat him after I already defeated him with a few Infinijump stickers). Unfortunately, I don't have the game anymore, but if I did, I would be playing it right about now.?
____ Now I will go through the story. The game starts out during a holiday called Sticker Fest, it occurs every year in the Mushroom Kingdom. Apparently, a sticker comet falls on this holiday. The sticker comet has the power to grant wishes. But we can't continue this story without the Mario classic, Bowser comes in to ruin the festival. Toads try to pull him away, but then he touches the sticker comet and made it explode into 5 pieces. A sticker crown appears on Bowser's head and Bowser transforms. He now looks different and is a lot more powerful. To prove it, he makes a strong dark wind to make a mess out of the Sticker Fest. Mario jumps on top of Bowser, but he's too powerful and Mario faints. Then Mario hears a voice telling him to wake up. Then you must unfold yourself out of a crumpled rectangle. The voice then tells you to go to it. If you go the wrong way, the voice will yell at you and even get a little impatient. When you finally get there the response can be as good as "Wow, you came right over here. You must be experienced." to "Well, it took you long enough." When you peel off the thing from the board then you find out this is Kersti. After that you must rescue the Toads so that they can push Decalburg back into place. Along the way you obtain a hammer, and then you begin your quest. You learn all about the world of stickers and how they are used. You learn about paperization, and a lot of other things. Your mission is to get all the different crowns off of all the bosses, then defeat Bowser and rescue the princess.?
____ Now for Depth. Although the game doesn't seem big, it is puzzling and could take some time to finish. World 3 is big and could take a while if you don't know what you're doing. Boss battles could seem hopeless if you don't use the right stickers. Then there's that boo mansion where you must capture all the boos. Not only are there a lot of them, but they're hard to fight. Then there's the final battle, which can also take some time. You just really need to know what you're doing in order to beat this game quickly. When you're playing it for the first time, it really does seem like a big game. There's always those questions, like "what sticker will I get next?"
______ Next is difficulty. the game isn't all that hard, but it is puzzling. The stickers really do add to the game since you don't know what you need to use against the bosses. Then there's the big boo boss that took me a while. The puzzles really get you. I remember the level where you lose every single sticker in your album, Kersti, and your hammer. So you run into enemies, and your defenseless. You can't paperize without Kersti, you can't use your hammer if you don't have one. You can't even get out of there with all of your stickers that you went in with, that's for sure. Any other times that I've actually had trouble with the game was just because I didn't realize what I was supposed to do. Just like when i try to play Zelda.?
_____ So, that wraps that up. I really like how the game works, and the battling. I did not like how you didn't get any partners besides Kersti, who doesn't do much until the end. I really like how each boss had it's own weakness, some were obvious and some were not. But I have always enjoyed playing the game and listening to the music. I can't play it now that I don't have it, but I will definitely watch some videos about it. I'll never forget this game, I liked it way too much.?
