So, usually in school we do work from 8:45 to 3:15. That's a sensible thing for me, I like it. Some people have it easier but I don't mind.
But when they decide to increase the 3:15 until 5:30, what do you think now? This will ruin clubs and get people who are driven home caught in traffic, since 5:30 is around the time when adults leave work.

Please state what you think below. I really wanna know if it's not just me and a few others who hate the idea.

That would be chaos here too though it wouldn't so much affect me but I know it would effect others especially the Dundee United FC academy students as some live in different towns. The furthest is around Glasgow area and he goes by train. My school is 9:00 to 3:25.

Well my school goes from 8:00 to 4:30 because of that so I guess we are kind of equal in actual hours almost. I do not approve of this at all but I do not mind really.

We were just discussing it, so I'll just say what I said earlier.

That sounds terrible. I don't know what the school thinks it's doing.

Especially since you have 3-4 months left.

~Pikachi~ : Why were they doing this again? Was it just a whim or did they have to from snow days or something?

Are they changing the morning time too?  I would expect there are other changes instead of simply adding another two hours on per day.

What time will you start and how many more breaks do you get?

wow... only 8:45 to 3:15?  My school runs from 8:30 to 3:30, and kids complain like nuts.  I always figured we were one of the few to start so late.... as most schools I know start around 7:30.

Would I want school hours to be extended?  Absolutely not.  I actually would prefer to start super early and get out earlier, just so I can have more of an afternoon.  Besides, holding school for extra hours (if you are starting at the same time ) is only going to burn out both the students and teacers.

It sounds like whoever is in charge of making decisions in your area is a moron. To not take traffic into consideration is inconsiderate and foolish. they are likely screwing a bunch of parents over. There will be plenty of complaints.

Singelli : Yeah. The high school here goes from 7:47-3:24. Starting at 8:45 would be nice. Though, personally, I would rather start earlier and end the day earlier.

But anyway, I assume that with the increase in daily time, there will be a reduced amount of actual days for your school year?

rcarter2 : Wow.. why such ugly and odd minutes?  :/ Was someone smoking something?

I would MUCH rather start earlier and end earlier.

Would you rather take increased daily time and a shorter year?
Or slightly shorter days with a slightly shorter summer?

Honestly, I'd prefer the second.  A longer summer won't do much for me.  It's the day to day I'd rather get done with...

Singelli : I think the second for me as well. Main reason being that there is a HUGE difference between getting home at 3 and getting home at 4:30-5. For example, we had no school today, but teacher meetings. We got out at exactly 3, and with no kids, there was no forensics practice. So I got home at about 3:10. It feels amazing compared to getting home when it is technically evening. If I had to have a slightly shorter summer to have that every school day throughout the whole school year, I consider it more than worth it.

Are all of the students supposed to stay the entire time? When most schools I know extend time, they split up starting times,so half would go from 9 to 3 and half would go from 11 to 5 because this stopped crowding.

Wow, seems like a bunch of people here actually have real club activities... Ours usually only occur one day a week (depends on which club) and only lasts for about 40 minutes. Which is pretty lame, actually... We also cannot get official recognition, so none of them technically count for anything. Wait, I'm getting sidetracked here. Our school goes from 7:20-2:20, so we only have a seven hour day. Your extension seems to extend past the total number of hours we have at our school, so yes, that is definitely ridiculous. The whole idea surrounding a school extension, anyway, really only leads to negative consequences. I cannot personally see any benefits. The school day is long enough as it is, and when you have everybody increase the time you go to school, people end up becoming more and more apathetic towards their school work, and it all gets worse from there. With any luck, they might see the error in their ways, and revert the time back to its original state.
