There's a moment in Luigi's Mansion that stirred up lots of speculation. If you go to the telephone room you will find none other than... a telephone. If you pick it up and wait a while eventually you'll see lightning strike. The creepy part? The lightning casts of a shadow of Luigi... HANGING himself. It's a little hard to make out, but he definitely seems suspended as well as having something around his neck like a thick rope. A lot of people think it was in the beta where the game was much creepier and was forgotten to be taken out. Others say it was a glitch and it's just Luigi's stand animation with the shadow raised to high. Either way, this probably supported the use of future game creepiness for fan service like Super Mario Galaxy 2's "hell valley sky trees" (go to shiverburn and upon entering go to first person and look to the top of the canyon backdrop left of you) because FAN SERVICE! XD
I don't care whether or not it's Luigi's dead hanged corpse, cause there's something even scarier in the game. Remember I mentioned the beta? Try getting a game over in beta, I DARE YOU.

First off, I like your layout artwork. It is very innocent.

Now, to your thread comments.

Think about it this way, a company would want their game to have depth and also be memorable. Sometimes controversy can bring attention to a game and cause it to gain more popularity due to the attention it receives from the controversy. This is what nintendo did here. They wanted people to talk about their game,, they wanted the attention, they wanted the controversy. What they did was called shock value. It shocked some people and stirred up controversy, but the attention gained from the controversy added some value to the games popularity and depth.

I have seen the beta game over screen. I have never found any horror games scary recently but this is just weird especially since it is a Mario game.

bobq : I think you're right, they have something with commercials too: Some of them are so bad you can't stop talking about them, but that means they still get attention.

Now for the thread:

That is pretty creepy. The game sounded scary but in a good way. I'm surprised they did something like that, but on the other side you'll constantly be thinking about the game. Very smart indeed.

I've seen the video/picture of this and it is indeed creepy. I don't believe that Nintendo would've purposefully put that in the game...but who knows?

I think this video will answer the question about whether it's really him hanging or not.

I personally don't see it as him hanging himself at all, though I admit I think that would have made it more awesome in ways (solely because of the creepy factor). In the end, I think it best that Nintendo not include something like that in a Mario/Luigi title. It just pushes things farther than they should go in a Mario title. That's more creepypasta stuff than Mario stuff.

Also, I don't find the beta ending creepy. Now if his eyes had been red or something, that would have been a nice touch.

At any rate, this game was awesome and very much unexpected. Nintendo made a great move when they put this one out.

There is actually one more reason that I can think of that hasn't been mentioned yet. In the shadow, his feet are actually straight instead of pointing down. If he was hanging himself, his feet wouldn't be pointing straight out like that.
