This is a quickie I wrote because I finished my work in class early today. This one was fun to write! I apologize for the minor swear (used in its historical, not profane, definition), but I couldn't think of a better word that would both rhyme and get across what I was trying to say. I took some inspiration of the song "Who We Are" by Imagine Dragons.
Who We Are
Coins standing on edge
Can fall either tails or heads,
On the whim of chance,
At the mercy of the gambler’s dance.
Can anyone really blame me?
It’s not my fault, you see.
I’m stuck facing tails,
But that doesn’t mean I’m going to fail.
People are so hideously fallen,
So why keep stalling?
Am I the only one who sees this?
It’s false, but I want this bliss.
There is comfort in a well-beaten routine,
A tranquility that goes mostly unseen.
I lead the fallen with a guiding hand,
Here, in our own broken promised land.
They say we’re crazy.
Don’t listen to them- trust me.
They say we’re crazy.
We are a tight-knit team.
They say we’re crazy.
My kingdom, your kingdom, our home!
They say we’re crazy.
This is ours- we don’t stay here on a loan.
They say we’re crazy.
They label what they fear.
They say we’re crazy.
It’s us- it’s me- they fear. Let them leer.
They say we’re crazy.
They. Say. We’re. Crazy!
Well, maybe it’s just who we are.
They think we’ve fallen too far.
Do they think we wallow in the ashes?
Do they think us brainwashed masses?
Swallow it; it’s just who we are,
Perhaps we’ve fallen too far,
But we’ll rise like shining stars,
Singing with our souls unmarred.
It’s absolutely who we are,
And I don’t care if we’ve fallen too far.
I’m saving these shining stars,
Helping them make their souls unmarred.
Won’t you help me?
Don’t you my vision see?
I’m rescuing these
From their own insecurities.
It’s just who I am,
Two personalities into me crammed.
Whether savior or destroyer-
Who cares? People like me make life fuller.
It’s just who I am, and
It doesn’t matter if I’m blessed or damned.
The world keeps going ‘round and ‘round,
And I’m not going without a sound.
It’s just who I am.
They think I’m crazy.
Take my hand.
They think I’m crazy.
I’ll lead you to our tarnished promised land.
They think I’m crazy.
Bury treasures and sins down into the sand.
They think I’m crazy.
Leave your past behind, dear lamb.
They think I’m crazy.
Doesn’t my work seem oh-so-grand?
They think I’m crazy.
Maybe I’m crazy!
Won’t you save us from what we are?
Won’t you save me, before I go too far?
No, back off!
We don’t need saving from what we are!
