It recently occurred to me several months ago that Zelda 2's plot may be more than what it seems.

What if Links quest not only entails waking Princess Zelda, But also putting to Rest the Lost Spirits Of Jason and his Crew of Argonauts Souls to Rest?

Just an Idea but the similarities are very cool.

The Boss "Horse Head" looks allot like "Pan".
The Boss "Helmet Head" looks allot like "Achilles".
The Boss "Gooma" does resemble "Hercules".
"Rebonack" ( The Mounted Iron Knuckle? He could pass for "Persius".
"Carock"? Who else? .."Medea".
"Barba"? This one is tricky but it does harken to "Medusas" evil form. Granted one looks more like a Dragon and one is more Serpent-like, BUT Snakes and Dragons have shared a long history of being mistaken for one another throughout history.
So, "Medusa" Is "Barba" in this paper.
Who could be the alter ego of the "Thunderbird"? I would have to guess the spirit of "Hecate".
An Ancient God. There is only one way to beat the thing.

Finally we have the Famed "Shadow Link".
Who could this be?
"Jason" Himself.
He Only uses his sword and shield. No magic.
Plus he does not poses the the Two Thrust Techs that Link has by now.

Well There are Three Possible characters she could be. A relative of "Impa", A relative of "Zelda", or a relative of "Link".
You can take your pick on this one but I favour "Impa". She is quick, agile, and can stand alone just fine.

Jason's 2 sons. Who could be the Alter Egos here?
I am going to take a liberty and just use a cop out and say "the Two Soldiers" that teach Link the Thrust Techs are the matured Ghosts of Jason's Sons.
I know they were killed when they were young, BUT, they were the product of a witch and a man that went through "Tartarus" and Back.
Plus they are linked to the "Golden Fleece" tale.
So having Ghosts that age could be in the realm of possibilities on this case. (Why Not?)
So, The Teaching Soldiers are Jason's Sons Ghosts.

What character in Zelda 2 could be her equivalent?
I am going to cop out again and say the word Ghost again. Only this time she is the many healers in each town that link visits. Magic or Life restorers.
She is both and is haunting and helping Link and Beckoning him to help her Husband to the Afterlife.
Afterwards? The Spirits of the dead might help Link wake Zelda.
Wish I had more time to get into it but I only have a few minutes to type this.
Its Just a fun Fiction Theory to tickle the mind.
