Without a doubt in my mind, I would be teaching math if I was a teacher. I could probably teach elementary level math right now. I mean its really not that hard. All I would need is knowledge on how I would teach it to elementary school kids.

I could probably also teach Algebra. Algebra is not that hard either, once you get the hang of it. All it is is taking from one side of an equation and putting the exact opposite on the other side.

If I couldn't teach math, then I'd teach history. It wasn't until high school that I really got into history. That's mostly because I was in ROTC all 4 years, and I learned about the Marine Corps history. It was very interesting and it kept my attention.

Good question. I'm not very good at explaining things, but I'll pick one anyways. I could make a great English teacher, but I don't like English, I would be a very boring history teacher, I would love to teach math but I don't know if I could explain well enough, I wouldn't be able to teach foreign languages very good, and I hate health and PE. If anything, I would have to pick math, probably seventh grade, maybe honors.

I actually do teach private Japanese lessons part time, so there's that, but I could also see myself teaching either English grammar (to native speakers or people learning it as a second language) or math.

I'd most certainly teach geography. It's the subject I'm most skilled at and the one i find most interesting. Plus, my geography teacher this year is awesome, so i could likely model my teaching style after him, that'd make me popular.

If I were a teacher I would probably teach something science related because math is boring, history is meh, I'm good at English, but my favorite subject is science whether it is anatomy, chemistry, biology or astronomy or anything else..it interests me. I don't know what grade I would want to teach, elementary would probably be too easy and I am not all that great at simplifying things for others, and then middle and high school are where students become annoying and disrespectful...if anything I would probably go with high school. I would try to do my best to make the class exciting, but I would also try to have strict rules so that students don't get the wrong idea. Good question by the way.

If I were a teacher, I would probably teach either character education or English .

Having a good character is very important, and I love discussing fairness and morals.

I love to read and write, so being paid to read and correct stories written by a lot of students would really be a treat for me . So, I'm going to subcategorize this.

If I were a teacher, I would probably teach either character education or English
writing. Grammar exercises - whether I am doing them or correcting them - make me yawn.~

Interesting story, I am a teacher. I did not plan on being a teacher, though.

I was 27 years old and my best friend told me that I could benefit from going to college. He ensured me that I was more intelligent than most of the people that he was in college with. I took that as a compliment and ran with it. I registered for McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA, soon thereafter. I finished my very first semester during the summer of 2008. The very day that I took my very first final I turned 28 years old. I was also the second person finished with the test and passed both the class and the final with an "A". I figured that since I could pass this class during the short, more difficult, summer semester that I could continue to do the same for the next 4 years.

Going back to school at 27 / 28 years old can be advantageous or it can be the exact opposite. I was originally going to college for Computer Science. There's one thing you should know about me and that is that I am a country boy. I had never had much interaction with a computer. I was struggling with the different computer languages and how to use pointers while programming in C or C++.

My best friend told me that if I ever needed help programming that he would help me. He then graduated and got a job working at Citgo in their I.T. Department. He is banking now. He was not able to hold his word on helping me when I needed it because he learned different languages during his first few semesters at school. I asked him several times for help and he just could not hold up his end of the deal. But it was not entirely his fault. I struggled and struggled for a few semesters with trying to write simple programs with little to no success.

It was about that time that I decided to switch majors...not simply drop out because I could not understand how a computer works. What should I be? <----  This was the question on my mind. My adviser thought I had guts for not taking the easy out by dropping out. My adviser was one of my math teachers. She encouraged me to stay in school and continue with the current semester so that I may decide before the end of the semester. I stuck with it and decided to be a teacher.

I had already taken 4-6 math classes by that time. Therefore, I decided to be a math teacher. Finishing college was my only priority besides my wife. She ended up going to college with me for a while. Then, something unfortunate happened to her. She had these horrible pains in her face. Trigeminal Neuralgia had taken over her life. This is a very painful nerve disorder. She ended up having to drop out of college for now. Once I save enough money, she will finish college too and we will have quite a bit of cash and time to spend together. She is feeling better since that happened but we had to file for bankruptcy. Times are tough now for us but we will pull though. Although times are tough, they used to be much worse. I can pay all my bills now but there is no extra money left over. Consider my previous statement whenever you decide to become a teacher. You will not make a ton of cash but you'll have enough to be considered middle class. I do well for me and my wife but she has a job too. Without her having that job we would not have enough to make it through one month. My pay just is not enough. It would be if they did not take out for insurance. Insurance is very important...ask anyone who has ever had to have surgery without it.

So, I am a teacher and I teach Geometry and Algebra 2 at LaGrange High School in Lake Charles, LA. It's a rewarding profession and I'm glad to say that I have a career at the age of 34. I just began my career. I was a long term substitute teacher at Lake Arthur High School from December 9, 2013 until the end of the year. I then had to get a permanent position for the current school year.

I wanted to be a person who could make a difference in several lives simultaneously. Teaching is awesome and I would not trade it for anything in this world. I'll go back to college to get my Masters Degree to where I can teach duel enrollment (college and high school courses). After I get that degree, I'll get a significant pay raise.

Take life as it comes. Do not panic. Become a teacher and only work 180 days a year (less than half the year) and make enough to enjoy life. I do not make much money but what I do make is a huge difference in the lives of several of my students. Some of them look up to me and actually ask me for advise. As mentioned earlier, several of my students live in severe to moderate poverty.

I have a student who came from Haiti. His family does not have much of anything at all. I noticed on a day where the high temperature was only in the mid 40s that he was wearing a short sleeved shirt with no jacket. I asked him if he had a jacket and he said that he did not. I talked to my wife and asked her if she would mind if I took one of my old jackets and donated it to him. Of course, she did not reject the idea...she welcomed it.

The next day I took the jacket to school but he was not there. I was a bit concerned. The following day I did see him and he had checked out a jacket from the school. Our school will check out jackets to students who do not have one. The school takes it back at the end of the school day and washes it to get it ready for the next student who may not have a jacket to cover their upper body with. Once I offered the jacket to him, he smiled so big that my eyes welled up and almost spilled over my lower eyelid. Never in my life have I had someone so happy to receive such a simple item.

Remember that if you do decide to teach you will have to keep an eye out for people like my student from Haiti. Help them whenever you can because doing something like that is like doing something bigger than you. My heart will not allow for someone to suffer... especially, if I can do something about it. Teachers are the people who help sculpt future. Several good teachers put together will make more of a difference than almost any group from any other profession. Teachers make a difference. We need more male teachers for these young men who do not have a father. We are their role models and they need that in their life. They will not all look up to you but you can be a model for those who do. Please consider teaching as a profession. It is one of the best careers out there.

I tried to encourage my wife to be a teacher but with her nerve disorder that flares up from time to time she thinks it would be a bad idea. She is going to school (eventually will go back) for National Resource Conservation Management which is a long way of saying Wildlife and vegetation. She longs to protect endangered species. It's a shame that she must finish a 4 year degree before getting into the field. She is passionate about it and always puts her full being into the work that she is completing. She never does anything "half ass" and dislikes it whenever I do them "half ass" because she will go behind me and correct or finish what I only did half way. Being married has helped me grow up and I will be the first to admit that I was a child and/or did childlike things until the ripe age of 31. After we got married, things changed. I was suddenly doing many things "wrong". I learned that I could not do certain things that I did while I was single. For instance, I could not keep some of my "friends" that I had because they just wanted to come over and trash my place while drinking and partying. These are the type of friends that I go out with and they almost end up getting arrested because they cannot control their actions once they're drunk.

Sorry about that. This post should not be about marriage and friends. I guess I have typed enough about this topic. Have a wonderful day and please. Become a teacher if that's what you want to do. Remember, we make a difference.

P.S. Check out Taylor Mali on youtube. He may sway your decision on whether or not you should be a teacher. Watch the video that is labeled "What Teachers Make".

Thank you. So you teach math? How do you enjoy it? I know some of the youngsters on here will read this and some of them want to be a teacher. What would you say to them?

I was able to help a student who needed it within my first year of being a teacher. I wish I could help more but I just do not have the capabilities. It takes several of us working together to make a big enough difference for the community.

Trendkiller :  I do teach math. Teaching is one of my biggest passion, and when I first joined vizzed what.... 2.5 years ago?... I had the tendency to write long vizzed novellas on the subject.    Like you, being able to teach moves me in amazing ways.  That being said, I've wanted to teach since I was itty bitty.

Teaching is one of those jobs that doesn't get big recognition. It doesn't make you famous, and your success doesn't come in big bangs.  It's gradual, slow, and consistent. It's quiet, and it's powerful. I've never experienced anything as rewarding as teaching.

Uh... if you want to sort through TONS of rambling, some of my longer posts can be found here and here.  The second link discusses how I was drawn to teaching, but you'll have to sort through a lot of other junk.  Most of it is categorized by big, bold titles though, so I'd hope it's not hard to find. XD

Uh... if you want to sort through TONS of rambling, some of my longer posts can be found here and here.  The second link discusses how I was drawn to teaching, but you'll have to sort through a lot of other junk.  Most of it is categorized by big, bold titles though, so I'd hope it's not hard to find. XD

Along with teaching, I'm trying to figure out how to send a friend request on this website and get 50000 Viz so that I may get the Play Station item from the item shop.

I miss all those old games and used to play them with my brother when we were kids. He shot and killed himself in 2002. These games help me remember him and how happy we were as children. My wife and I cannot afford to make another donation so I'm doing what I can to earn the required points for the play station item.

I would like to be Singelli's friend on here. Please help me with this. Thanks.

warmaker : If I were a teacher I would want to teach math because that subject was my biggest strength in school.

I'd be an art teacher, cuz I like art. I bet I could be any kind of teacher though, I'm sorta a jack of all trades. I hate physical education classes though, waste of my time.

I would either teach history, or I would teach some type of computers or video production class.

I love that you'd have soccer class every day, all day. At the end of the day your students would be like putty in your hands. Like actually putty from the total body numbness that comes running up and down a soccer field ALL DAY. Actually, after several weeks of that all day class each individual student would become their own unstoppable force to reckoned with. Sounds great! Where is the sign up sheet please?

I would teach theater. It sounds like the complete opposite of what warmaker would be teaching but the skills that a person might learn in theater class can be valuable assets for the rest of their lives just the same.

I was in theater when I was growing up and my public speaking skills are exquisite due to all of the improvisation exercises we did. Plus, I may not always be comfortable in new social situations, large crowds or with spotlight on me and only me, but I can fake it until I make it.

All of my student would benefits from the confidence building that "putting themselves center stage" could yield. That's my personal guarantee!

Oh, I would definitely teach computer class. That way, I can barely talk and play games when I'm not teaching (or maybe sometimes when I am). No, but, really, I do like computers. They're fun, so I want to be a teacher who does fun things. And also lets their students go on any website.

Well, if I would be a teacher (I really can't believe that I would ever think something like this ), then I would probably be a music teacher, because music is my biggest passion, and also the only subject where I have great grades xD And besides of that, music is love, music is life...

If I were to teach something it would have to be either in the computer field or in the science field. My honest preference right now would be teaching coding to future generations in order to show them the "magic" that can happen if one can learn coding well enough. I feel that coding will be a big subject to learn in the future and so I would want to be able to teach that important skill to future generations. I also like to see the different ways that everyone would solve a coding problem, since there can be many different ways to code an assignment in order to make it do something. Rather than teaching them how to solve problems with a set formula I would tell them to think of how to solve problems in their own ways. If a student likes to use the for loop better than using the while loop I would let the students explore their own ways of solving the problems. Those reasons are why I would teach coding if I were to be a teacher.
