I just wanted to get your feedback on whether or not you would want to see a competition for making reviews on steam games. I have been talking with van about it a bit and I have talked to some others as well.

The idea would be similar to the CP VCS, with the idea that you make reviews. The more reviews you make that are long and of good quality, the more points you get.

We even thought about offering prizes that could possibly range from 50K to 100K Viz depending on how popular the contest becomes and we might even offer games to the winner.

We thought it would be a good idea to hold the contest during the tdv months because it would allow for more posts that are lengthy and appropriate, which would indirectly aid the tdv stats.

What do you guys think? Is this a good idea? Should some things change? We were also thinking about possibly having a posting contest for Viz and games as well.

That's a great idea.  But it might become a reason for people to hold off posting reviews here until then.  I think you should hold a small contest in the very near future to generate buzz for the forum, and hold the bigger contest during the TDV month.  That way people will still be posting reviews here.

supernerd117 : Honestly, I don't think people have a reason to post reviews yet because most users will be focusing on the VCS which requires shorter posts in order to get their post count for the day up. I don't believe we can get more than 2 to 3 reviews this month. However, if we hold off the big review competition until April, people would have a reason to make them for the Red and Yellow jerseys.

I think the Big review competition in April would be fine and I think we should have a small posting competition this month to draw people to the forum. What do you think? 

Also, we would need titles for both of the contests.

zanderlex : I think that's a good idea.  I think I could give out some keys to the winners.  1st place wins game of choice from Rush Bros, Roogoo, Insecticide.  2nd place wins choice of what's left, and 3rd place wins the last game.  If the winner declines the game, they'll be given a small Viz prize instead.  What do you think?

As for title, I think Inaugural Review Competition: Win Games or Viz! is a good title for the first one.  The next title might depend on some factors.

But all this brings up a question: Who will judge the competition?  I'm willing to act as a judge of this competition, although I'll want to compete in the next competition.  You could ask people who have experience writing reviews (such as a user of this and yourself) to judge.  Who do you think would make a good judge?

supernerd117 : I think the games could go for the small posting contest. I think the review contest, if big enough, should have a Viz award of at least 50K Viz.

zanderlex : I agree.  I had meant to mention that in the post, but neglected to do so.

I don't think the point system would be good. 
I think it just should be a contest of which review is the best, rather than putting people under the stress of making a review everyday. Also it would mean you would have to read a lot of long reviews to decide if they are quality or not.

So if it just were 1 review each competition it would make things easier for everyone. There should be no limit of entries but I think choosing one favourite and second and third would work better than doing a points system a like to a VCS.
