Hey, you can find some pretty good Freeware if you know where to look.

Here are some of the sites I have found.

www.majorgeeks.com-has some things that could be very useful. They also try to explain what you need.
www.versiontracker.com-useful for finding some Freeware
www.snapfiles.com-has a lot of Freeware. Can we say a Freeware alternate to Microsoft Office? It's here.
www.download.com- An ok site for finding Freeware, but has quite a bit of ads.

Most of these sites also have Shareware, so pay attention.

The Alternate to Microsoft Office is Open Office. It can read .doc files, so if something is written in Word and sent to you , you can view it with the proper formatting. Open Office has a spellchecker and most of that stuff too. Also it has an alternate to Powerpoint, Excel, and a HTML editor.

There is also some FREE anti-virus software there. You can buy an updated version, but the free one seems to work pretty well. You can find a little bit of everything at, at least one of those sites.

Cool, i've used one of those sites in the past. Every time i download something it usually directs me to download.com to do the download... i'll have to try out the others tho

I wonder how exactly one would have their files hosted at download.com. Also FilePlanet can be really gay sometimes considering access to their member servers has a monthly fee.

Alot of things on downlaod.com are free to downlaod, but it ends up only being the trial version. But some things are good. Like! gogo data. It KILLS popups! I'v tryed maney pop up blockers, that one beats them all, and it you right click on the tray icon, you get a whole wack of other options.

download.com is probably the worst of those. Filsnap and MajorGeeks are pretty good.

The easiest way to block pop-ups is to get Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Get Mozilla FireFox.

Copyrighted software given away for free by the author. Although it is available for free, the author retains the copyright, which means that you cannot do anything with it that is not expressly allowed by the author. Usually, the author allows people to use the software, but not sell it.

Yeah that is pretty much all there is to it. Freeware can be really good too.

Sometimes the Trials on Shareware files are worth it...sometimes the trials are long enough so that I can use it for everything I need the program for, and I no longer need it once the Trial is over with.

Sometimes you can get lucky with that type of thing. The good ones are the ones that are totally free. Some are actually really good programs too.

They tell you that it'll install spyware crap too, that's why it is a briefly read thru those agreements, because if they tell you that it'll add other crap, then they can legally add that crap.

Those sites shouldn't do that much to your computer in the way of other stuff. Also pay attention to when you are installing them, sometimes they ask you if they can install something else. Snapfiles actually lists if there is another thing that comes with it I think. Also have some good spyware remover.

Yeah, that those are very useful. They can really speed your computer back up.

I found download.com accidently. I use it a little bit. I find that download.com and majorgeek.com have alot of the same files. I think there shared or something
