Hello everybody,

In this world:
When people own money they hoard it.
Why not use what you need and give the rest out to charity?

When people have food they eat all they can. They must eat until they feel like exploding. As a result, they gain unnecessary weight and develop an unattractive potbelly.
Why not eat enough so that you feel fit and healthy.

When a pleasure is found, people overuse it.
Too much of a good thing is always bad.

And the saddest part is they don't even have the self control to stop themselves so they slowly watch themselves tumble and fall.

Please add anything you have noticed about this world full of greed and gluttony .
Feel free to share any experiences.
Thank You

Forget about giving it out to charities, that's silly in intself for a few reasons.

1. no one has the money to help many people out of the percentage pf people living awfully and making yourself have a lot less money to do so make sno sense.
2. More worrying is that most of these charities don't give all or most of the money to said affected people but rather keep it for themselves.

The real greed that is infuriating is big business corporations and CEO's etc not giving their employees that much of a pay rate but instead keep all the profits for themselves when they don't need an extra 5 mil to make all their employees struggle and be unhappy.

I think we need to be careful on judging gluttony here is why. Some people have endocrine problems which makes them want to eat more than they should. Also some people who have Autism cannot sense when they are getting full thus they eat a lot. Second, I have had some counseling classes. Some people who eat large amounts of food have eating disorders such as Binge Eating disorder. Usually Binge eating is due to some time of trauma in the person's life. Thus if people have Autism, endocrine problems are an eating disorder. We should be very careful on judging them, because that is the last thing they need is to be judged. Not trying to start an argument here, but just offering some food for thought.

tornadocam : Of course I agree with what you say, but here you are naming the exceptions. Other than those exceptions, I say quite a number of people (including myself) can be accused of gluttony. I just wish we could have some more self control. I know some people who do too.

Here is a poem by The Great American poet Vachel Lindsay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vachel_Lindsay) and I would like to dedicate this firstly, to xxirock4evxx for starting this topic and secondly, to all of you good people reading the debate forum. Here goes.

Why I voted the socialist ticket

I am unjust, but I can strive for justice.

My life’s unkind, but I can vote for kindness.

I, the unloving, say life should be lovely.

I, that am blind, cry out against my blindness.

Man is a curious brute—he pets his fancies—

Fighting mankind, to win sweet luxury.

So he will be, though law be clear as crystal,

Tho’ all men plan to live in harmony.

Come, let us vote against our human nature,

Crying to God in all the polling places

To heal our everlasting sinfulness

And make us sages with transfigured faces.

tornadocam : Well obviously those are medical reasons which makes them an exception to what I was saying. I am talking about gluttons with no conscience and self control

The only real solution to this is to monitor for obvious signs of greed or gluttony and tax it. Force people that eat at Jack-in-the-Box 20 times a month to pay a fine. If a court case is judged to be obviously frivolous after it has been submitted but before or after the case is finished, fine them. People want to waste money on weed? Tax it. Alcohol? Cigarettes? Tax it. Maybe someone wants to surf the internet for porn 8 hours a day? Tax it. You're a miser that stores 5 million away in a sock? I'm taxing you. Anything that is obviously in excess should be taxed.

However, lets say you're joe schmo with a 9 to 5 and don't really have any sort of vice? Have a nice day. You're a billionaire that isn't storing your money in foreign banks and avoiding taxes? Have a nice day. You're a college kid that does his hw and works part time? Have a nice day.

Prohibiting alcohol or Jack-in-the-Box completely is too much of an obstruction of liberty. However, via taxes, we may be able to coerce those with vices to become productive members of society.

Oh, and if someone figures out how to thwart the system? Taxes and back-taxes.

The only greed is the government, if our poverty wasn't so high and we didn't waste tax money on bullcrap like "The war on drugs" (Dear U.S.A, you'll never win that) we wouldn't need to horde food and money for selfish reasons, of course I'm just a kid so my political opinion is automatically wrong.

Meekymilly : Please, do not EVER say that your political opinion is void or in any way incorrect just because you're a child! That is completely untrue!

On topic: Greed and Gluttony, though they are horrible things, they are part of human nature, like many things that are considered sins by the majority of people. This doesn't make them okay, and we should do what we can to prevent it, but you must fight morals with morals.
