Game Review:  Super Turrican 2    System: SNES by: GOLGO 14      ONE OF THE LAST GREAT EPIC ACTION GAMES IN THE TWILIGHT YEARS OF THE SNES......


Super Turrican 2 is,  to great effect; a technical achievement  . It showed us  some of the early work of  a stellar programming team   known as FACTOR 5 who would later go on to develop the outstanding   STAR WARS ROUGE SQUADRON  games for  Gamecube .Just like the old Star Wars  movies, in which the sequel  was superior to the original  in every way  Super Turrican   2  shares the same legacy ....lets get to it!!!!

GRAPHICS:  9         Super Turrican 2 is ablaze with  every visual  trick the SNES had to offer with beautiful , multi scrolling backgrounds , drenched in deep buckets  of color  bursting with  eye popping sprites  that never fail to impress. From the hot sun radiating its warmth behind the desert sand  as you speed over  the dunes of an alien planet  on the opening level to the serene,  underwater  planet  filled with unknown dangers  in the  depths below, Super Turrican  2 shows great passion,  confidence  and understanding FACTOR 5 's team  had  with the  SNES architecture.

 SOUND/MUSIC:  9   The soundtrack  is  an epic  listening experience  that marches you through each stage  that takes inspiration from  the movie  ALIENS  and CONTRA 3. Crystal clear snare drums, strings and lots of nice synth work  punctuate   the mood and tone  with great  panache and never lets up til the credits roll.

STORY: 2  Like any  old school run and gun  action game ,the story should always take a back seat  because  it interrupts the moment to moment action you signed up for. Just know that you are a kick ass soldier  with tons of weapons and you're gonna put a stop to whatever gets in you're way!

ADDICTIVENESS:  9  Super Turrican 2  reminds me a lot of CONTRA 3 which as you might know,  brings  a lot to the table in this category. There are a great  variety in it's weapons  in its run and gun game play that are all fun to use  such as spread shots and flamethrowers   and  also  some intense vehicle and shooter stages  both 2-d and 3-d that all control  tightly. You're solider also has  the ability to ( I call it SHAMUS) roll into a little ball and place mines . The real "hook" to the addictiveness  of this game is simply that ..a grappling hook!  You're hook is really you're lifeline because if you don't become accustomed to this mechanic quickly  it's..."GAME OVER MAN!!" . The level design  supports this mechanic well  and once you master  it  you'll be swinging away and latching on for dear life like  a Belmont  in a space suit!!  There are also many hidden secrets throughout its stages to unearth  keeping the replay  value high . 

CHALLENGE: 8   The challange in this game  might seem daunting  to some  less seasoned gamers  because of the great  variety of  gameplay  mechanics  you  will  have to adapt to through the giant stages  or .. any one of  the sinister bosses that only want to  put an end to you're path of glory  and finally....the limited amount of continues you actually have to plow through this  epic might  leave  some less seasoned gamers a little  frustrated. If trail and error aren't you're thing then you might wanna unbuckle you're seat belt   and leave this ride  for another day. 

CONCLUSION:  Not content just to make a quick sequel  to a pretty good action game  FACTOR 5 really stepped up to the plate and knocked this sucker out of the park  making improvements to the original in every way  possible ... from the generous challenge to the  stellar audio/visuals  to the new gameplay mechanics  SUPER TURRICAN 2  demands respect and it's a travesty  hardly anyone knew  this game existed as it never got the attention it deserved.
