Hey guys. Today, I will be making a game review of Kirby in Sonic the hedgehog. I might try to make more reviews often this month so stay tuned for anymore reviews coming from me! (If you actually like them) Anyways, enough of the personal stuff and let us dive right into the review!

Intro: Anything Special? What is it?

One thing I would probably want to say is that this is a very unexpected Sonic hack in my opinion. I definitely did not expect to see Kirby just come in like that in a sprite hack. But it's pretty awesome though. So, to basically explain what this game is based on what I have seen after I played it, it is a sprite hack where you play as Kirby through all Sonic the hedgehog 1 zones. There aren't really that much changes here and there but still, it's pretty much good enough for a hack. I pretty much like this Sonic 1 hack myself. This is probably one of my favorite Sonic 1 hacks now.

Things that are changed and different from the Original Sonic the Hedgehog 1:

1. You play as Kirby instead of Sonic. Obviously. And you have Kirby's abilities to suck up badniks and rings, "run" (short starting speed boost but not that fast and not as controllable as the spindash), and "float" (Small non-damaging double jump to stay on the air for an extra longer amount of time).
2. Some things and badniks are pink. Not very sure why but thats what it seems like.
3. Different title screen with Kirby in it. (Of course, just like all other Sonic 1 sprite hacks)
4. All else are pretty much the same like original.

Gameplay: 9.5

Well, here is the big part of my review since there is so much to talk about. The gameplay is probably where the awesome part of this game is. Not only you can play as Kirby in this Sonic 1 hack but he has his special abilities thats pretty unique compared to other sprite hacks. One of my favorite and best Kirby abilities of all time that is included in this Sonic 1 hack is that he can pretty much suck everything up thats around him. To do that, simply hold down and press A. Then Kirby will suck up everything around him. He can suck up all the rings and badniks around him! Just imagine, what if you were surrounded my lots of badniks and rings around you? You can simple suck all the rings and badniks around you with ease instead of running around and taking care of everything yourself! You will defeat all the badniks with ease and collect lots of rings with ease! Except there is one thing that may "suck" about this. You guessed it, if the controls to suck everything up is to hold down + A, then what will the spin dash controls be? Well, I hate to actually bring this up but you can't spin dash with Kirby in this Sonic 1 hack. But still, in the original Sonic the hedgehog, Sonic can't spin dash either so not such a big and bad deal here. but one thing I seemed to almost forget to mention here is that when you hold up and press A, Kirby will "run". Basically a fast speed boost to help you start running fast. Somewhat similar to the spin dash in a way except you can't keep tapping A to charge, he just goes right away and it isn't as controllable and as fast as a spin dash. And he doesn't roll when he does his running ability unless you press down. And again, not such a big deal.  One more ability that Kirby also has in this Sonic 1 hack is the ability to "Float". To basically explain it, it's kinda like a small double jump here. To do it, simply press A while you are in mid-air and then you will basically do a very small double jump. It's pretty useful in some cases. Like if you are about to land in spikes or something hazardous, you can do that "Floating" ability and then try to hop to safety. Also, it is pretty fun to play around with that ability. The only disadvantage is that once you do that ability, Kirby will no longer be in a ball at the air and if he bumps on a badnik, he will lose rings. So, you got to watch out on where you are going before using that ability unless you want to risk losing rings. Other than that, it's still awesome to use. Also, for Kirby's jump height and speed, I would say it is pretty much the same or almost the same like Sonic. I don't think he jumps higher or runs faster than sonic in this Sonic 1 hack. The physics in this hack is pretty much almost the same like the original Sonic the hedgehog 1. Kirby doesn't run so fast down hill unless he rolls and the gravity is pretty much the same like original. But I guess it's best in some cases for things in Sonic hacks to be the same like the original game.

The Original Sonic The Hedgehog Vs. Kirby in this Sonic 1 hack! Who would win a race?

Here is an extra sub-section I decided to include for the gameplay portion. I have always been thinking this ever since I played this Sonic 1 hack. Lets say there was the original Sonic vs. Kirby in a race through the Sonic 1 zones. Who would win? Well, lets talk about both of their abilities to find out! So, Sonic in the original Sonic the hedgehog can run fast, jump high... etc. But he can't spin dash yet since it wasn't invented yet in the original Sonic the hedgehog 1, unfortunately. As for Kirby, he can suck up all enemies around him, do a small double jump/float but can't destroy badniks with that ability, and do the "run" ability which gives him a small boost. Though, one thing is that even though Kirby seems to have a lot more abilities than the original Sonic in Sonic the hedgehog 1, by default, Sonic is probably faster than Kirby. but yet Kirby can probably defeat badniks and collects rings easily with his sucking ability. but yet... How will Kirby's sucking ability help him speed run through the zones? It's only useful if you're really try to gather lots of rings and/or harassed by lots of badniks. And for Kirby's floating ability, it may slow him down if he bumps into a badnik since he can not destroy anything after floating and he moves slower in the air too. So, based off of a race of Sonic Vs. Kirby, Sonic may win. (In my opinion) but if it was a fight or a battle based on how much badniks they can destroy and rings they can collect, Kirby may win with his abilities. However, who will win overall? That is something a little hard for me to decide to be honest.

Graphics: 7

Well, I would say that the graphics isn't that bad. Well, not that great either. The Kirby sprites does look pretty good and he looks exactly like how Kirby should look like he is pink, adorable... etc. but one thing that somewhat makes me frown just a little bit is the title screen. The way Kirby is like is as if he was just drawn while half asleep. but I'm gonna say it's not that bad. Though the 2D/3Dish way of him standing in the title screen is just off. I mean, his arms looks like as if they were simply random bumps just coming out of Kirby in the title screen. Thats kind of nasty if you were to imagine it. But still, not much of a big deal either, the gameplay is usually what mostly matters in old retro games. Also, like all or most other sprite hacks, the badniks and a few things had their colors changed to pink. A strange thing I noticed is that the badniks and some things always gets their colored changed in a bit of a similar way to the main character in Sonic 1 sprite hacks. One thing that makes me wonder is why almost all sprite hacks would change the color of the badniks and/or small things for colors. It's kinda weird as if it's a trend. But I'm guessing it's something that hackers and developers would normally do when sprite hacks are made. Weird but kind of cool in a way I guess. That is about it for the graphics section of my review!

Sound: 9

And now, as all or most you guys already know, here comes the unchanged parts of this Sonic 1 Hack (the same goes for most sprite hacks I have seen). All of the sounds are pretty much exactly the same like the original Sonic the hedgehog 1. But just because of that doesn't mean that I rate it low. I'm just gonna have to rate exactly the same way I rate the original. But to talk about it, all of the zone's background music and all the sound effects (jumping, collecting rings... etc) are all unchanged. Though I do like the original sounds the best normally. My favorite background music is probably green hill zone and final zone. Green hill zone is relaxing, happy, gives you a good mood, and makes you want to move fast. Final zone if very serious and epic. Star light zone would probably be my 3rd favorite. It's very fitting for the night and very relaxing and awesome! Other than that, there is honestly not much to say here. That is about it for the sound portion of my review!

Addictiveness: 10

Well, Here is one of the best parts about this Sonic 1 hack! This game is pretty much addictive alright! Mostly because of Kirby's sucking abilities and gameplay. I just never get sick and tired of sucking up lots of rings and enemies. It just makes you feel like you just want to continue sucking up things. Unlike all other Sonic games and hacks, this one is addictive in a different way. I'm not addicted to this game because I want to move faster and faster like most other sonic games or hacks, it is mostly because of Kirby's abilities. It's always fun once in a while to look for an area where it is filled with lots of rings and badniks and then just suck them all up. It's funny, fun, and addictive! It also helps you get a higher score when you end the zone with lots of rings collected and lots of badniks killed all thanks to the help of Kirby's awesome sucking abilities. From what I kind of already know, normally Kirby's ability to inhale and suck things up in most games are usually everyone's favorite ability and I guess it is probably the same case here! (Well, at least for me and possibly most of you who played this Sonic 1 hack) And that is pretty much all for this portion of my review!

Story: 6

And now, like most or probably all other Sonic games and hacks, here is the bad part were there aren't much things to say. Here comes the old and simply saying of "Defeat Dr. Eggman and Stop his evils plans!" and all. But instead of Sonic the hedgehog doing his usual job, it is Kirby who is gonna take care of Dr. Eggman this time (surprisingly). One thing though is that saying something like this in my head just hurts my brain a little bit in some type of way. Just imagine Kirby defeating Dr. Eggman instead of Sonic. That is just very weird and odd. This is probably one of the last things that can come up into my head like that. I guess it is somewhat cool and yet... weird? I'm usually used to seeing Sonic doing that type of job. But... Yep, and there isn't much things to say here other than that.

Depth: 9

Well, I guess this game does have some good or even great things to offer. You can play as Kirby and use his special abilities to suck lots of badniks and lots of rings, float (or do a mini double jump), and "run" (slight starting speed boost). I kinda already explained most of this in the gameplay section because the gameplay and the graphics section is pretty much the only things that were actually changed here. This also offers all of the original Sonic the hedgehog 1 zones (obviously), all the original badniks and the original Dr. Eggman Bosses. Of course, this also has special stages and chaos emeralds like all other Sonic games but you can't turn into super Kirby though (sadly). And just imagine how awesome that will be if there was a super Kirby! But, not much of a big deal though. Well, that is about it for the Depth portion of my review!

Difficulty: 7

Well, lets see... All the zones are pretty much the same like the original Sonic the hedgehog 1. However, Kirby has his awesome ability to suck rings and badniks, float (or mini-double-jump), and "run" (small starting speed boost) as already mentioned before. Those abilities can (or probably will) come in handy at times and can possibly making things easier for you. Lets say you are surrounded and harassed by loads of those annoying and ugly badniks everywhere. What can you do with Kirby to defend yourself? Just simply suck them all up and then you are done. Very easy and simple. Also, if you are surrounded by lots of rings, just suck those up too and you get yourself some nice and easy rings fast! So, those abilities can make things easier for you in some cases. But other than that, it is still mostly the same like the original Sonic the hedgehog. Some zones are a piece of cake (Like green hill zone, obviously) and some zones will murder or *cough* "drown" you from difficulty (Like *cough* labyrinth zone). Other than that, not much else to say here I guess. That is about it for the difficulty guys!

Some suggestions I currently have for now  to make this Sonic 1 hack even (or at least possibly) better:

1. Make Kirby steal and/or get a special ability when sucking a badnik for a limited amount of time. Well, I'm not sure what abilities is there to steal but maybe make some kind of power up for Kirby that is somewhat related to the badnik he sucked up in someway. But I'm not really 100% sure on how something like that will actually work out here but who knows?
2. When you collect all chaos emeralds, make it possible to transform into super Kirby! And while you are in Super Kirby, he will be glowing light pink, he will be super Fast, his jumping height will be a lot higher but yet controllable, and all of his abilities will be enhanced. Like if he were to use his sucking ability, he can suck rings and badniks even faster and even from farther distance than normal. And as for the running ability, it becomes a gigantic speed boost showing him blasting off very fast with lots of light and for the floating ability, he will double jump and stay even higher in the air even longer than normal and he will be able to destroy badniks and even suck things up in mid-air at his super form. There can also be another special ability for super Kirby where he can shoot badniks or even Dr. Eggman bosses with some kind of projectile. Like a huge ball of yellow light or some thing that looks cool to shoot enemies with.

Yep. Thats all I got for suggestions for now. I wonder if my suggestions will actually be even possible to even attempt at doing or not but who knows? There are other amazing Sonic hacks out there to show that almost anything is possible for hacking sonic games!

OVERALL: 9

Ahh... Well, that is about it guys. Overall, not so bad, pretty good I guess. I really did enjoy playing this Sonic 1 hack especially since it's addictive because of Kirby's ability to suck badniks and rings. I hope you all enjoyed reading my review and thanks for reading! (If you bothered to actually read something). Have a nice and a fun day on vizzed everyone! Any feedback on this review will be appreciated!

mohammedroxx3 : Looks like someone has reach the amount of words I did yesterday lol and you say you couldn't write that much XD. Anyway this was a very good and very long review quite possibly the longest you've written before and I did find the sub-sections interesting that you used which I think is a good idea for some reviews on this site (as long as they actually are putting them to good use).

So many hacks, so many straaange mods, At least I can say there's all something unique and different about one another. Good review, Just one thing: Keep any unessacary stuff out.

The Original Sonic The Hedgehog Vs. Kirby in this Sonic 1 hack! Who would win a race?
Yeah I read through that, If it's not apart of the overall game, or part of the review, You should consider leaving that out. It feels like uneeded word count padding.

I'll rate the review a 4/5 though.

I seriously think, some of you"game reviewers" Should seriously consider following play4fun's appropiate detail method. Some of these near 3000 word reviews, are getting a little out of hand.

SuperCrash64 : That part is technically part of the review since I was talking about Kirby's abilities in this Sonic 1 hack and comparing it with the original Sonic 1 game. And everything else looks fine to me.

but still, thanks for the constructive feedback.

sonicthehedgehog57 : Thanks. I think this is possibly one of my longest reviews I ever made. Nice to see that you have seen my review.

BUMP
Haha
Good review, and look, a sonic game.
The game is cool, and you did a nice job with the review.
(And I did a nice job bumping it! )

Barathemos : Well, thanks for the feedback. You did an awesome job bumping this review. And gee... I was still a trusted member at the time I made this review.

Still though, why is my old review sooooo long in words? Almost 3000 words? Whoa. I must have been a much different reviewer at that time. Not sure if I was terrible or not.... But it just feels too long.

(Did you seriously have to bump this?)
