I have a tendency to get into a new console towards the middle of its life  (Once the bugs are worked out of the hardware, and there is a decent selection of games).  But I do spend a decent amount of time researching things early on.  In the case of the Xbox One, I really don't see myself  ever owning one.  The system is invasive, it has few titles that you cant play elsewhere, and to top it all off, its pretty much a mach for the PS4, but costs $100 more.  Personally, I ha vent found anything about the Xbox One that I like well enough that I feel the need to own one.

My advice would be to wait a few months (Maybe as much as a year.)  Then take a look at the new generation of gaming systems.  By then, they should have most of the bugs worked out of the systems, there should be a half way decent library of games for them, and most of the gaming community will have made up their mind as to which system(s) are better.  (Easiest way to determine popularity is to chest the system's sales numbers for number of consoles sold and take a little time to read the reviews that you can find online.)

A new gaming system is a big investment for most of us, you shouldn't buy ANY console until you are sure it is what you want.  If in doubt, wait and research until you KNOW what you actually want.

Currently, the Xbox One seems like an upgrade from the Xbox 360 as an entertainment device. But as a gaming system, I don't see any reason to buy one. The Xbox 360 is an extremely powerful console that can play the exact same games as the Xbox One. I'm not going to buy a new console for hundreds of dollars to play the same game with 10% better graphics. I don't deny it is a great entertainment device for other media forms; but as a game system I don't see a huge reason to buy it.
