Popcap has made some fine games in their time, but never before have they made a game that can suck the hours out of your time like some time eater. Here's Mega Mewtwo X's review of Plants vs. Zombies
First, let's talk about the visuals. This game looks awesome, with the exception of the ds version. the game also has no lag(unless you're using a VERY old computer). And on top of that, the game runs at a smooth 60 fps at the very least.
Next, the sound. Oh man I love this game's soundtrack! From the tranquility of the fog level's music, to the catchy-ness of the roof level's music, down to the fact that every single track can drill a big hole in your head and stay there(especially the final boss's track).
Third, the addictiveness. Two words, Survival. Mode. This game has a LOT of replayability. and it just goes to show, you can hunt for zen garden plants, go to the puzzle mode, co-op, versus, survival mode, and also the mini-games! And that's not even talking about the zen garden itself, and the actual story mode.
Fourth comes the story. Sadly, this is the low point in this game, the game just doesn't have an immersive story. That's not saying it's bad, It's just weak. The story is that a whole lot of people got turned into zombies(insert resident evil joke here and here), and you're the only person left(with the exception of Crazy Dave). And that's it, you face the final boss, beat him and you won the game!
Up next, the depth. I could just copy and paste the section about when I talked about the games addictiveness, but I'm not that kind of guy. Instead, I'll just say some stuff about the game modes. Zen garden: you find plants throughout the game and raise them here. Puzzle: It's what you would expect, It requires logic and keen thinking, but not to the point where It's frustrating. Mini-Games: 20 different mini games are the exact kind of thing to do once you've beaten story mode. Speaking of...... Story Mode: The main mode in Plants vs. Zombies where you go through 50 different levels fighting of zombies and getting new plants. Versus: the most fun in Plants vs. Zombies that you can possibly have. Where you and a friend can see who will win, 1.Plants or 2.Zombies. And yes,you can ACTUALLY play as the Zombies! Co-op: Sadly, I have no idea what this mode is. From what I can infer, you and a friend play through story mode together. Survival mode: you have to survive 5 waves of Zombies in each sub-mode(sort of speak). But there is also a hard mode to the first 5 sub-modes. When you beat all 10 sub-modes, you get access to "Survival-Endless". which is exactly how it sounds, It never ends!
Finally, the difficulty. This game is in between that thin gray line between a difficult game, and a walk in the park, it's a peaceful game, but at the end of the game the difficulty can increase ten-fold. "But where is the game at it's hardest?" you may say, oh that's simple: Survival mode.
Overall: This game is a MASTERPIECE. even though it was just a harmless pc game to begin with, It spread like wildfire in terms of popularity. I'm certainly not afraid to give this game a 10/10. The game still hold today, and I bet It'll keep on going for another 5-7 yrs.
