Introduction
Looking for something to play that's out of the usual? Do you enjoy "The Sims?" Do you like RPG's? Do you enjoy building and farming games? Here's a game with a mix of all those elements, that would slowly creep upon you! Found this in a CVS as a kid where I was just buying random games, a lot of people wouldn't even consider unless it was possibly found in a Game Stop or Target. This was the Harvest Moon that started my love for the series and a good game to start with if you ever expressed any interest in Harvest Moon.
Graphics
The look of the game wasn't amazing, but they were no horrible either. It's one of those games that look sorta like clay animation more than anything. Sorta misses details such as facial looks where you can only see eyes and movements are kind of skipping when you run.
I give the graphics a 7 out of 10
Story
I'm not sure just how much the N64 and Game boy color versions are different, but in this one, you return to the farm where you spent your childhood and the place where you promised the little girl you once played with you would return to someday, because you found out that your grandfather had passed away. The farm has fallen apart in the time your grandfather has been gone and is need of major restoring. The problem is, the towns folk have no faith in your abilities to be the man your grandfather use to be and had the nerve to make a vote that, if you don't restore the farm to its former glory within 3 years, you must leave town.
I give the story a 8 out of 10
Difficulty
Not a difficult game at all. That goes double for if this isn't your first Harvest Moon game. This was my very first Harvest Moon and I did encounter the bad ending once, but I think it was mostly because I ended up with a dead animal and slept too much without advancing my progress. It's a farming game...So there's no major challenge unless you simply can't figure out how to restore your farm. Really the biggest thing you could do is get married and you're safe from being booted out of town in the next three years. If you want more of a challenge however, don't get married.
I give the difficulty a 4 out of 10
Addictiveness
Keeping this short, as I said already, this game will creep up on you. If you love the progress of building, watching your farm grow and elements of the dating Sims, you should be a fan of this game.
I give the addictiveness a 8 out of 10
Depth
There is more to this game than just building a farm. Not only do you go out on dates, but there are special events that happen in the game as well during certain times of the month where you can interact with other towns folks such as where you can race, compete for best trained dog, you can cook and also compete for best dish as well. There will also be heart events with the girl you want to date, where if you answer the right questions would increase your relationship points or decrease them if you get them wrong. Heck, the game takes it even further than that, once you get married, sooner or later, your wife is going tell you shes pregnant and you'll end up having a baby by her! So yes there is plenty things going on within this game.
I give the depth a 9 out of 10
Sound
Sound isn't that bad either. It's got a different song for each season, changes its tune to something of sorrow if you have to bury an animal, becomes dramatic, if you are getting married, well you get the idea. It's pretty decent in this area where there will be no complaints.
I give sound a 8 out 10
