While it is commonplace for characters in games to be humans, likely so it appeals to a human audience, many developers will have their characters as animals to make them more interesting. A few examples are things like Star Fox, Banjo Kazooie and even Sonic the Hedgehog.

Now here's the question: Which ones do you like or remember the most?

If I were to start naming games and characters, I would be here forever, so tell me yours.

I love Fidget.  This lovely Nimbat can be found in Dust: An Elysian Tail and is highly awesome and quotable.  "It has glowing evil eyes of evil!", and stuff like that.  Fidget is not very powerful, but her moves can be combined with the titular characters for some awesome effects and big damage.  Plus she's really cute and cuddly :3

world of warcraft has worgens and it makes me happy there's also tauren and pandaren.
I also like tails the fox in sonic games, I haven't really played many games with animal characters. there's also a few animal charters in league of ledgends which is nice to.

i dunno if I count as one, raposa aren't exactly any of your known animals, i really don't know what i can relate to the most actually, a fox? a cat? i don't have a tail so probably not... maybe i'm a rabbit!... no i'm just a completely different mammal of some sorts, whatever.
crazycatpup: you know i think that one of those characters in league of legends ripped off me. one TOTALLY looks like a more realistic version of me, wears the same clothes as me, i mean cmon! i will probably sue league of legends and that adventure time episode with the clown nurses any day now!

I think the one i recall being the first was that blue fox in star fox 2.. can't remember her name.. 

I guess any game with anthromorphic animals counts... such as Spyro and Ratchet and clank and Jak and Daxter

I think of Pokémon the most when I think of furries in gaming because there are over 700 animals in the game, and they can all think like humans, which is kind of creepy.

hmmm...i know i saw a pic of alucard as a canid SOMEwhere (the SotN alucard, not the hellsing one though i suppose that one is nice too). usually though it depends on 2 things:

1. which character is best for the situation at the time (or best stats, gear, or whatever makes it the strongest) and 2. (taking into account number 1) when given the option, i just prefer playing as things that aren't human in general.

so many games across so many consoles/handhelds/pc/etc. all have humans as the main character. well, i like other creatures more than i do humans so i'm tired of seeing that in games and prefer playing as animals, robots, or whatever else is available. you see enough humans irl so why not try different things in games?

as for which i like most...that would probably be moogles (especially those in FFXII. they have the best designs of all imo) or those cute cute Moomba's from final fantasy VIII. such a shame theres not all that much real good fanart of moomba's floating around, at least from what i've seen.

Krystal from star fox and Carmelita fox from sly cooper. I think I just love foxy characters in general but both of them are part of my childhood. And also spyro, I am a slightly  horrified for over what they did to him in skylanders but I have my old games, so I'll just remember him like  that..

i suppose so but he does also have the wolf form in-game and i just remembered a game i haven't played much of in years, Ty the tazmanian tiger. shame my wii burned out and is unusable due to the resulting over heating problems (burns up within minutes of use) otherwise i'd go and play that some more sometime.
