Fire Red and Leaf Green
Chapter
Four: An Unbreakable Bond
That was a scary day. It
was filled with fear and pain, but it was definitely worth it. Because of the
events on that day, my Pika and I became inseparable. Nothing could tear us
apart after what had happened… Except for death but, oh, well. I was treading
along a rocky path that led towards a large, dark cave. Pika, my Pikachu, was
quickly waddling behind me. When we arrived at the entrance, we stopped. Pika
and I turned our heads towards each other. I closed my eyes and sighed heavily.
“Let’s do this, Pika.” I bent down on my knee to Pika’s eye level and gestured
him to hop onto my shoulder in case anything were to happen. Pika refused by
slapping me in the face with his big, yellow tail. “Ouch!” I exclaimed, falling
backwards. My huge, straw hat had fallen off, exposing my long, blonde,
ponytail, and my true identity. I didn’t hesitate to plop it back on. “Pika!” I
shouted. “You are so lucky Red, Blue and Leaf aren’t here.” After getting up
and dusting my shirt, I asked him to promise that if he refused to hop onto my
shoulder, he would at least walk close by, and behind me, too. Pikachu
grudgingly nodded and followed me into the enormous cave.
It was very dark, and I
could barely see a thing. That was until Pika charged up an Electro Ball for
light. “Good thinking!” I said. Pikachu continued waddling on. A few minutes
in, I heard the beating of wings nearby. I told Pika to stay close by since
large, dark caves like the one we were in were usually swarmed with Zubat. Suddenly, Pikachu’s Electro Ball was broken
and everything was pitch-black again. “Pika?” I shouted. I heard Pika screaming
and crying. “Pika? PIKA! Where are you?!” I shouted. I ran toward where I heard
the cries for help to find Pika being bit by a Zubat. I immediately jumped on
the Zubat. I hated being violent, especially towards Pokémon, but in this case,
I had to. I hit the Zubat, and yelled for it to go away. I managed to shoo that
one off, and as it was fluttering away, I heard its thoughts with my special powers:
It was hungry for the food its kind normally seeks for which, according to the
Pokédex, is blood.
I quickly dashed over to
Pikachu and held it in my arms. “You’re alright, Pika.” I cooed. “You’ll be
fine.” There was a bite mark on his left ear. I took off my orange sleeveless
shirt, and used it as a blanket to wrap around Pika. I was cold, but at least I
still had my black long-sleeved shirt underneath. I continued walking forward,
holding Pika close. Everything was fine until we heard the Onix’s cry. “Oh,
no…” I thought, and started running away without even looking back to see if it
was still there. Onix, slashed its large, rocky tail aimed at us, but I jumped
high up and dodged it. Unfortunately,
though, its tail crashed into the cave wall. The impact was so huge that the
section of the cave we were in began to collapse.
It was a mere few moments,
but they were very frightening moments. Rocks and boulders of all sizes were
falling down from the cave ceiling, and I was running around frantically. From
left to right, and even in circles sometimes, dodging the tumbling stones was
the only thing on my mind at the time. I held Pika close and told him that were
going to be okay. I lied. Well, at least about one of us. Any nearby place
where we could’ve hidden had collapsed by then, and, in my mind, all hope was
lost. Small chips and pieces of rock and stone were scratching Pika’s face, and
I wasn’t doing much better. “You know what?” I stopped. “It’s not worth it.”
With that, I lay on my arms, still holding Pika, sheltering him from the
falling boulders. “Ouch… OUCH!” It hurt, but the majority of the rocks that
fell on me were small, so I was lucky. Pika looked up at me with a confused “what
the heck?” face. I looked down on him and let out an ever so slight “it’s for
you”, smiling, though tearing. I lost almost all hope when I saw our old “friends”
coming back. Zubat. I remember them biting my neck, and me collapsing on
Pikachu to shield him. I was breathing heavily, and the Zubat didn’t look like
they’ve even nearly had their fill. The pain stung so much, and the rocks kept
on coming. One rock hit my head, which left a huge, red bruise, and the Zubat
would not let go. I felt myself getting weaker, especially because of the
piercing pain of the Zubat’s teeth in my neck. The pressure was so much that I
nearly reached the point of thinking it was the end. During the long period of
suffering, Pikachu’s face got angrier and angrier. What had happened the next
second was vital for our strong, unbreakable bond, and probably what saved my
life.
“Pika…..” I managed a
slight smile. ‘CHUUU!!!” The Zubat were sent flying far into the distance, and
so were the boulders. Everything in the field except for me and Pika was
completely fried, and there was no sign of life besides us. Pika and I stared
at each other for a long five minutes. Then, he jumped into my arms and I
hugged him tightly. We were both bawling our eyes out, for the moment before
was blessed. Pika and I were happy, but sad, and we had a good, long cry. “Pika…”
I let out. “Thank you. Thank you very much…” Pika looked at me with his huge,
brown eyes. “Pikachu!” he cheered. I could tell he was saying the same thing. “Pika…”
I said. “Are we friends now?” Pika nodded happily, and started cuddling with
me. I got up slowly. “Ow.” I was still hurt. “It’s ok, I’m alright!” I
reassured Pika, who was looking a little worried. Pika sighed in relief. “Now
let’s go.” I smiled. “Let’s go tell the others.”
