I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but there is something I would like to tell you guys. I don't really tell this to many people, but I am in Foster Care. I have been in care for about six years now. I guess I am really letting it out now because I am kind of happy because just last night I was told I was getting a new foster brother, and I really did not want one.

It turns out that I knew the other kid and I have been having a lot of fun since he came.

You're in Foster Care at 19? Isn't that kinda impossible? I thought foster kids were turned out at 18...

There's nothing wrong with being in foster care though, and I'm sooo glad that you're enjoying your new house-mate!!! I hope you continue to enjoy his company!

mrfe : It depends by State, in New York, the age is 21 as long as you are still in school. However, once you turn 18, you are allowed to leave whenever you want. I have been in the same place since I was 14, so I decided to stay for a bit longer.

zanderlex : You live in New York? Me too! Anyway, I have always wondered about foster care. What is it like? Is it cool, is it torture, is it somewhere in between?

tgags123 : Now this is going to be a long post. First off, what do you believe about people who are in Foster care? Do you right away believe that people have it tough?

First point I would like to make would be about the movies, by the time I had turned 14, when I went into Foster care, I had only seen two movies, and since then, I have seen at least 50 movies. In fact, I have seen at least one movie per week during the last three months.

Sporting events are a plus too, I have never gone to s sporting event before I came here, and now, I try to go to at least 5 sporting events per year, I even went to the MLB Home Run Derby in July when it was in Queens. The people take really good care of us, and it's fun. I have my own TV, a PS3, in my own room. Up until yesterday, when a new kid came in, I had the room to myself for the past five months.

I have been living with the same family for six years, except for a small gap of about one month. I did have to switch schools, so I ended up going to a high school in Flushing and I absolutely loved it.

There is a lot more stuff to talk about when it comes to this, so if you think of exact topics you would like me to tell you about, just let me know.

Excuse me for asking a dumb question, but what's foster care? (Sorry if this seems spammy)

A user of this : Well, the basis of Foster care is when you spend what's left of your childhood with another family, and then once you turn 21, you go out into the world. There could be a variety of reasons as to why the government will force you to live with another family.

I think that is cool that you are in foster care and you are happy about having a cool new foster brother. It is always good when you are in a room with someone nice and cool, that isn't a bully or is dull and boring.I am happy for you man. I think it is awesome that you felt comfortable enough to admit this. Hopefully you can continue enjoying your time with your new foster brother. So you've been there for 6 years huh?

A user of this : You're kidding right? You don't know what a foster care is?

Oh, thanks. Well I'm glad you are enjoying your foster family and brother! Hopefully they will still let you come back sometimes when you turn 21. I hope you have a lot of good times with them.

Razor-987 : Well forgive me for not knowing something I was never taught about.

tgags123 : To be honest, you might know at least five people who are in foster care without even knowing. Once, in middle school, there was this boy in my class. He introduced me to his sister and I knew her for about a year. Then I am at a party at the foster care agency and I randomly see her there, and I had no idea. In my house, I have had perhaps 4 or 5 people who had gone to the same high school as me, and there must have been at least another 10 in my school that I have never even met. In the entire city, I would say that there has to be at least 10 thousand current people in foster care.
As for the Home Run Derby, it was a magical night. Literally imagine, some of the best baseball players hitting the ball, and the ball going out of the stadium as if it were a unicorn on fire. They even had 10 times as many lights, so it was super bright, and announcers to actually broadcast whats going on to the fans in the stadium. To make things sound even better, I was actually on the field during the derby, but it was a bit embarrassing because all 40 thousand people were booing at me.
