Forgive me if I'm a little old fashioned in my game tastes.

So in all the time I've been here on vizzed, I've actually NEVER seen anyone discuss this game. Does anyone play it?  Did anyone enjoy it? Hate it?  Mixed feelings?  If so, why?

What is your favorite section of the game?  Do you loathe any other particular section?  Want to share some of your creations? Secrets?

I've always been a sucker for open world, exploring games.  If I could 'explore' in real life, I totally would. I love venturing out into the unknown and seeing what there is to discover. This is one of the reasons I absolutely ADORE Spore.  Oddly enough, I actually like the 'space age' the best.  I hate that it takes me sooooo long to get there, because I have so little time to game in.  As a matter of fact, I've only ever ONCE made it far enough to play the space portion of the game.

The billions and billions and billions of planets absolutely enthrall me.  When I see them, I'm totally tempted to keep playing until I have 'conquered' every single rock surrounding the sun.

I haven't played Spore in sooooo long though!  I had the "Cute and Creepy" expansion, which was totally awesome.

Always hated that first stage though. I enjoyed it the first few times, but it quickly gets redundant.

No.. to me it just looks to childish and weird to play so I never bothered to even try it.

Singelli : Though the critics loved it, the user score on Metacritic is much, much lower (4.9).  That's been my main stumble on whether or not to buy the game.  I do love open-world games, though.  I got Burnout Paradise recently, and it's a blast!  In that game, you control one of a variety of cars or motorcycles through a large city, completing tasks, and unlocking new vehicles by "shutting them down" (crashing them).  The crashes are amazingly rendered, and are a joy to watch.  Multiplayer is rather bare-bones, but is good nonetheless.

I love spore, I bought it when it came out and I still play it a bit to this day, great to see someone else who likes the game. I never really liked the cell stage either. I recommend buying the galactic adventures pack if you still play the game, it plays very similar to the creature stage.

Oh. My. Gawd!
Spore. I love spore! It was one of the first games I played, I enjoyed it then and I enjoy it now! I love the concept, I love the style, I love pretty much everything about it!
When I saw that EA was releasing a Spore game to Nintendo DS I imediately ran to the store and bought it. Too bad I wasted around 50 bucks on a game that sucked. BIG TIME. It was the worst, don't buy it. I was close to tears when I played it. TT^TT
Well enough of me telling sad stories! The PC game is one of my favorites, tough it may be a little bit childish but it still rocks!

Spore? What's with these people calling this game "childish"? This is one of the best games I have ever played of all time (under Team Fortress 2, the Half Life/Portal series, and The Stanley Parable). Plus the mods are pretty cool, Dark Injection and Dark Genetics are my favorites.

There is just something about this game that just speaks to me in some way, shape or form. I mean seriously, go out and play it. It's on Steam and Origin.

Oh and here's something to be excited about, people are making a realistic Sporeish ling called THRIVE: http://revolutionarygamesstudio.com/

It is a pretty fun game. My friend has it and he loves it.
I remember my sister had the one for the ds which was a kinda weird port with a story to it.
The final boss was way too easy.

Spore is a pretty neat game. Love designing the creatures and seing how weird you can make them look though.

I played Spore once. My friend (and neighbor too) had spore, and sometimes, when I came over, she let me play. Being it that I was still in elementary school, like the fourth or fifth grade (sorry for my bad memory), I was actually pretty confused on what the point was. There were times where I wanted to bring the game home and actually play a little more to finally ease my confuzzlement. But it was her game lol, not mine.
It's just that feeling where you are playing a game and are actually confused, but you are intrigued by the game that you want to keep playing on to finally figure out what in the world is going on.

In my opinion, Spore wasn't so bad, but I really wouldn't play it if I had the ability to choose. It certainly is a very unique game though.

If you guys like sandbox games like this I highly suggest trying out Shores of Hazeron, it's completely free, and although very very rough around the edges at the moment, is the realization of a concept that I've been wishing for, for a very long time.

Spore is pretty good in my opinion, though I only really use the level editor (Galactic Adventures expansion pack) after I figured out how to ally the Groxx in space stage.

i've watched Mr. 360 Games play it on YouTube and it seems like just my kind of game. Like Singelli said, exploring an open universe is why i keep coming back to games like Legend of Zelda, Super Mario 64, and Banjo Kazooie. And I also like the god concept of watching over and leading a species to their highest point of supremacy. And with so much content to do in the space stage you will never get finished with the game in your lifetime

Believe it or not, Spore was the first PC game I ever played (the first game I ever played was a Sponge Bob Donkey Kong kind of thing) when I played it, it blew my gosh darn mind, there was so much to explore, my favorite stage of evolution is as soon as you leave the pond, and you grow legs and arms and you can walk around. I like this one the most because this stage determines what your character will look like for the rest of the game. (or at least for me, I never found a way to change your Spore after the second stage) This game also got me into RPG's because of the aspect of looting, finding items, and gaining experience from killing other monsters, I also like a game where you customize your character (Skyrim, Fallout, Spore itself.) however than stuff went down the drain when I heard of a sequel (or at least a DLC of some sort) Called Spore: Galactic Adventures, now at this point, I had steam so I was pumped, so when I got it, booted it up, I learned it was the same game as the last one, all the stages and everything, the graphics weren't even improved... But it gets worse, as I got to the final space stage, I learned you could then trek on land with a gun and jet pack, it sounded great until I landed on one planet and found out the horrible fact: IT BECAME A MASSIVELY ONLINE MULTIPLAYER GAME, it met the same doom with games like Planet Side 1 and 2, ROBLOX, even some minecraft servers! In fact I hated this mode so much, I deleted my game and re did the stages before the horrible online one. THANKS EA

supernerd117 : I'm pretty sure the reason the rating is so low on Metacritic is due to the backlash of the hidden DRM software SecuROM (aka SuckuROM) that it came with. It limited each copy to be installed on 3 computers which many didn't like. People were just upset and gave the game a low rating.

I remember playing a friend's copy of it one day. I had lots of fun with it, and therefore got the Wii version the moment I could! I'm not sure it was quite as good as the PC version, but I still enjoyed it, despite how unbelievably short the game is! I'm kind of hoping to come across a copy of the PC version so I can get past the tribal stage.

I watched with great interest when Spore was announced.  it was going to a sweeping game, deep in logistics, strategy, science, and gameplay.  I waited for it to come out and kept reading reviews and opinions and developmental notes.

And then it got Disney'fied.  I heard the developers took the idea and made it more Family Friendly and it was soft, fun, and bouncy.  I heard it went from being an incredible idea and a perfect game to a fluff game meant to be easy.

I didn't even try it.  I never bought it, I never went and tested it out.  It seemed so cool and then suddenly so basic there was no point.  Those big games, like Civilization, are meant to be tough, meant to stretch the imagination, and not meant for 8 year olds to play.

Spore went that direction so I went another direction.

supernerd117 : Spore was created by the same people who created the Sims. IF you love to design stuff and travel the universe, then this game would be great for you. Trust me I know. And by clicking CTRL + SHIFT + C a the same time the cheat box opens up. Type help in and it will tell you all the cheats for the game. Some you have to download to get to work.

In some ways I find spore to be the jack of all trades, master of none.

I, like Singelli, really loved the space age. But up until then, there is no real challenge, and I don't feel really compelled to design my the cars and airplanes and stuff, cause those stages are so short. But even then, the space stage is good, but could of been so much better with added depth; and after becoming all powerful in the space stage, and reaching the center of the galaxy... you might as well start over.

As a whole, it's a very fun game, but specifically, most of the phases of the game are lacking in my opinion.

I would give it a 7/10, as it's a great idea, and the space stage is very fun.
