Pokemon Red and Blue:B because I was in a rush to get the game started.
Yellow:Blue because that is his name in the manga.
Pokemon Fire red and Leafgreen:Gary because that is his name in the anime and I saw the anime before I had seen the manga.
Pokemon Sapphire,Ruby,and Emerald:May because that is her name in the anime.
Pokemon Diamond:Wallace because I had played the game before Barry had been introduced to the anime.

I name them whatever their actual name is, canon or fanon. For example, in Red and Blue, Gary. Diamond and Pearl, Barry. And so on. I don't like making other names, because it's really awkward for me, being a Pokenerd.

I just give them random names sometimes. It could be Mark, Sam or Jim.The only time I went outside the box and made a random name was in Pokémon Sapphire was when I named my character Sap which was suppose to be short for Sapphire, I didn't save the game though. And the reason why is because I am terrible at creativity.

relinquish022 :  I pretty much did the same thing goodboy did and tried to stick to canon names for my rivals but I have recalled naming them differently. For fun I remember I would name myself and the rival after Mega Man characters for giggles. Other than that it would irk me if I tried naming them differently.

Typically I will usually name my rival after my brother or close friend.

Every so often I'll name it after the characters like Gary or Barry and such.

The only exception is when I play GSC. Due to his red hair I ALWAYS name him Ginger

Wow this is actually an easy question. I usually name my rival either Gary or after the version of the game. I never really get creative but I never use my real name as the main character which I always name Ace now in respect to my favorite anime character from One Piece. Back then I would usually end up naming the rival random names with no real significance. Sometimes I would put something corny as a kid which was funny when I was young. However, when I name my team members and give 100% on a game I end up naming the starter after me and end up naming all my Pokémon after family and friends. Oh and I never care about the genders either since it is just a game....
