I did a breeding test with growlithes. I wanted 2 see if the stats of ditto breeded pokemon was the same as male and female breeded pokemon. Both of the growlithes that hatched was male.
?
I first raised a male and female growlithe up 2 the level 34 and i taught them both the tm rock smash at level 22. I will be referring 2 the growlithe breeded with the two parents as a normal growlithe. I taught them both a tm to see if the baby would be born knowing the tm also.

Here was the stats and moves of the baby growlithes parents at level 34.

growlithe male stats
attack 71
defense 47
special attack 66
special defense 52
speed 57

growlithe female stats
attack 62
defense 46
special attack 69
special defense 56
speed 62

As you can see they both have different stats,
They both have the same moves and they are
bite
flame wheel.
ember.
rock smash.

When the baby growlithe hatched here was there stats

Normal baby growlithe.
attack 13
defense 9
special attack 12
special defense 10
speed 11

Attacks born with.
Roar
Flame Wheel
Ember
Rock Smash

As you can see it was born knowing flame wheel and rock smash. I wasn't surprised 2 see that it was born knowing the tm rock smash but i was surprised to see that it was born knowing the move flame wheel. The reason that i was surprised that it? was born knowing flame wheel is because flame wheel is one of growlithes most powerful attacks.

Here are the stats of the ditto growlithe.

ditto growlithe baby
attack 12
defense 10
special attack 13
special defense 11
speed 12

Moves born with.
bite
roar
rock smash.

I was surprised 2 see that the ditto growlithe was born knowing rock smash.

After raising both growlithe up 2 the level of 34 here are there stats.

If you compare the stats of the original growllithe then you will see that there is no difference.

attack 71
defense 47
special attack 66
special defense 52
speed 57

I honestly thought that the normal growlithe would be stronger than its father at level 34. It may of been born knowing powerful attacks but there is no point of breeding a pokemon when the original pokemon will already know those moves by time the baby is leveled up.

here are the stats of the ditto growlithe at level 34.

ditto growlithe at level 34
attack 65
defense 51
special attack 73
special defense 59
speed 66

As you can see the ditto born pokemon beats the normal born growlithe in every way except for attack. So which is better? I say that the ditto born pokemon is better. It may not have as powerful of moves when it is born but it beats the normal growlithe in every other way except for attack. If you would like then you can comment and leave your opinion of which one you think is stronger.

I would say that the ditto-bred Growlithe would be better. Of course, lacking in it's Attack stat is a problem, but a minor one since it isn't a big difference between the two different bred Growlithes. EV train that attack stat on the ditto-bred, and everything would be good.

Depends what the trainer wants. You can use Ditto, parents, or a Pokemon of the same species but not the Pokemon itself. They all have good and bad aspects, Ditto having overall good stats.

Although, one thing you should always do while testing: Use Pokemon that have neutral stats while breeding. It has a minor (but still) impact on the stats.

goodboy :

I'm not sure what you mean by neutral stats.
When i think of neutral stats i think of stats that are completely
opposite from one another so i am not sure how that would help at all
or how that would even affect breeding in a positive way.

If the system wont let you post again feel free 2 send me a pm.

bloodyb : Neutral stats, as in a nature like Docile. They have no effect on the Pokemon's stats, and it really helps determine which breeding solution is better. Maybe the reason Ditto breeding appears better is due to the natures of the Pokemon parent and the Ditto, but that's unlikely.

Oh, okay. Pretty much every pokemon in crystal has a special ability though. I could be wrong but every pokemon i have caught has a special ability and i have 70 of them. That is the number on my pokedex and for some reason the pokedex and time aren't accurate on vizzed. I don't keep doubles around with the exception of my two dittos. I have already released all of my growlithes except for one.
