Sometimes I feel that every cartoon network show has to be turned into some sort of Video game, And so is the case with the Powerpuff girls, an amazing show created by Craig mcracken. I always wanted them to make a video game out of these girls, and so Our wish was granted in 2001, 2001, This was the last year of the Nintendo 64, and we wanted to see something good, and what we got was a Powerpuff girls game, Is this going to be good? Let's find out!
Story-6/10 The main plot behind this game is that Professor utonium and the girls are making a delicious pie to pass the time, But then bubbles accidentally pours a beaker of Chemical X into the pie, the girls leave the pie by the window, then surprise! Mojo jojo and the gang take the pie from the window and guess what else happens? They gain superpowers! The girls notice this, then they set out to stop them.
Gameplay-7/10 In this 3D brawler, you will take the role of Blossom, bubbles, and buttercup, as you adventure around the city of Townsville stopping one villain at a time, The main mode of the game is story mode, where you will play through the story as each one of the girls, In each level of the story you will fight off against each one of the villains from the show, Like Fuzzy lumpkins, sedusa, mojo, etc. Each level has a bunch of stuff for you to pick up and throw at your opponents, there are also special Chemical X beakers scattered around the arena, collect 3 and you will be able to use your super attack on your opponent. I will say, I really like the premise of this game! Bam entertainment tried their best not to make this another generic platformer like other licensed games, which is great. There is also simulator mode where you can play the game with a friend.
Graphics-6/10 This game was released in 2001, at the time a bunch of other developers were pushing the console to It's limits with games like Conker's bad fur day (AWESOME GAME!) Dr Mario 64, etc. And I will give them credit, they did a great job on this game! All the levels you will be fighting in are big, action packed, and bursting with color. As for the characters, they are pretty recognizable, The powerpuf girls look like theirselves, the villains look like theirselves, and so on. The HUD is pretty self explanatory, It shows how much health you have left until you die, how many victories you have in a match, etc.
Sound-4/10 This is probably the worst part of the game, Just like back to the future for nes, There is only one song in the whole entire game! And It is the powerpuff girls theme song, and It plays from the very start to the ugly finish. As for the sound effects, they are your typical stuff, you get a bunch of punches, bams, explosions, etc. The girls do talk sometimes in the game, but It is only when you punch or start getting hurt. This is ok.
Addictiveness-6/10 Is this a game I am going to play again? Um...I guess! The game does have a multiplayer option to it, But I only play It whenever I am bored to death. The game does have It's charm though, and That is a great part of the game Itself. Licensed games always need some charm to It.
Depth-5/10 The game offers you quite a little bit to do on the onset, You have 3 stories to play through, and They all feel the same. So the game will probably last you 2-4 hours at least. And there is a multiplayer option so you can play with a friend, But I hardly used this mode at all.
Difficulty-8/10 If there is one thing I cannot get over, It is the difficulty of this game! The game is very hard to play at sometimes, and It will make you rage, But If you are an expert gamer like me, then the game shouldn't give you trouble.
Overall-7.4/10 If you are a huge Powerpiff girls fan, Then I highly recommend you buy this game, It is not the best fighter in the N64, But at least It is the most affordable, I gave this game a 7.4 because how much It stands up on It's own for a licensed game, Buy it if you ever see it! This has been RedHotToddy, And I am signing out!
