Most subjects appear to be a complete waste of time, I won't name any as I don't want to offend the teachers of those subjects and my choice would be entirely subjective anyway.

Regardless if you could design a school from the ground up what subjects would you choose?

Interestingly just to show us how unimaginative the public are, when surveyed about this they choose a curriculum that represented more or less the current one, oh plus with extra subjects like Business and Finance - e.g. How to open a bank account and budget a weeks bills, which some school do anyway.

But I know us lot at Vizzed are a much more learned lot so which subjects should schools teach in your opinion?

I think they should teach traditional Martial Arts for - respect (both of others and honouring oneself) health and strength, Meditation Classes, Psychoanalysis - there are so many books that could change a persons life by explaining the choices they have made.

But what would you add.

I am not expecting you to say for example something as simple as History as you will need to be more specific, not simply to say because we have to know history as if you don't know your past you don't know your future, that is far to generic and also does not reflect the way history is taught in schools and holistically to see the global impact decisions made have.

"Survival 101."
Think of it as a kind of "Boot Camp".
I think I'd have every high school student (there are medical exceptions) go through this for 10 weeks each year during the summer.
Plus, each year something extra is added to the program.
One year its a "Bear Gylis" Week. (Not the tv show. The actual practice.)
The next year its "Tourneyment" week. (Mortal Kombat Style A fighter from each corner of the earth vs each of the students. One by one.)
The Third Year is "Martha Stewart" week. (Don't judge. The Samurai were interior decorators.)
The Fourth year?
................
"E.R." week. They don't just learn first aid. Who ever dies? Fails. (I told you there would be medical exceptions.)
(Hope everyone got that long joke.)

Honestly? There are so many subjects covered in schools.
Why does no one learn to cook till college?
Seriously.
A person has to eat everyday. Why on earth does no one learn how to till college?
Just a thought.
Good Luck.

Good Luck To All.
I'm done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.

I would have to agree with orionfoxgibson on this one, cooking should be taught earlier on.

Classes I would recommend in the curriculum would include that along with normal life skills suggested by the OP's surveyed group such as Finance and Business.

English is an essential class because writing is a major part of today's society through documentation of the multitudes of processes that occur daily in all areas of profession, from the simple jobs of working in a grocery store, to large businesses selling popular products, to the Engineering of a ground breaking machine that allows for efficient mining on the moon.

Mathematics is also a vital class to take because much of the technology society has today owes a great deal to math. Even in small day to day things there is math everywhere, in the design of the houses people live in, the cars driving the streets, and simple things like morning coffee.

Science also plays a role in teaching how the world works and can provide answers as to why something happens or or why it does it, and how people can use these occurrences to make their lives easier and more comfortable to live.

So the main subjects I personally would teach are English, Math, and Science, to prepare people for the world we call human society.

I think they could make a lot more classes than what they had when I was in school, even I went to a tech school, I feel like more needed to be added, like with more language classes, rather than a couple, because they're students want to take a language course that they want to take. Not just language classes, but a lot of other classes would be great as well.

On a (real) free market, schools would compete to offer the best programs. Which ones? Whichever ones parents (or children) want). Languages? Maths? Sciences? Arts? Whatever.
