And now I have sticky yellow mucus and phlegm (I know it sounds gross... sorry if you're eating your meals ).  I'm feeling a lot better today compared to last week. What worries me is this sharp pain at the right side of my head coming back and forth every time I stand. Is it possible that the pain was caused by cold? And can it also be prevented without drinking medicine? I don't like taking up pain relievers unless the pain becomes really unbearable...

Sorry to hear you are feeling sick I'm a little under the weather myself, so your not alone.
Have you tried putting your head over a bowl of hot water and covering your head with a towel? The steam helps clear up that nastiness.

Juliet : The pain is most likely due to pressure from the immune cells going to fight off the infection in those areas of the head. These sort of symptoms are extremely common. When you stand up from sitting/laying down, your heart has to pump harder to fight gravity and get the blood to your brain, so the extra fluid will cause extra pressure, causing the headache pain. When you lay down, the fluid redistributes due to gravity, and relieves that pressure.

If you don't want to take medications (and if it's a cold, antibiotics will not do a thing), keep drinking lots of water. That will make the phlegm your body produces to not be as thick as it is now. Also, warm showers and steam from hot drinks/soup will help break up the mucus and will allow the fluids to flow through your vessels more easily to relieve the pain from your headaches.

Juliet : I had this not long ago and I found that getting some steam crystals and placing it in a bowl of boiling water help. Place the bowl on a table and sit on the floor making sure you are comfortable and your airways are clear, place a towl over your head and the bowl so the steam don't escape. Do this 3-4 times a day for 20-30 min it really helped me. Also keep a bag and a roll of tissue near by incase
