Just wanted to give a heads-up in case anyone wanted to learn about/discuss this.

It's been over 15 or so years since the Pokemon anime was first broadcast on TV in Japan, and for... most of those years, the first 37 or so episodes were edited up quite a bit after their original broadcast.

But now it seems those original broadcast versions are going around on... well, anime torrent sites. I set up a thread here to see if anyone is interested in discussing them.

If anyone doesn't really get what I mean here and needs a reference point, here's a Youtube video showing three different "cuts" of the climatic scene of "Pokemon Emergency" - the 4Kids version, the Japanese Kids Station Version, and the Original Broadcast version.

Just to clarify, this isn't the usual case of a show being edited for an American dub.

This was the fallout of the "Pokemon Shock" incident, where these episodes were retroactively edited for the Japanese audiences, even though they weren't reported to cause seizures like "Dennou Senshi Porygon" was. This happened on the Japanese side, and 4Kids didn't really have any input in regards to the "Thundershock" edits or any other edits involving flashing scenes (although of course their version still edited quite a few other things).

iN008 : Go look at the last part of the Youtube video I linked.

That is basically new to the internet. It's the very original cut, with the original effects and no framerate reduction. You did not see this before, because it was only in the Japanese broadcast during the original premiere of the first 37 episodes.

Some episodes, particularly "Pikachu Vs. Raichu" and "Hypno's Naptime", were practically neutered by the post-Porygon edits.
