Fans of Metal Gear Solid rejoice, its excellent prequel is now on Vizzed in english, if you have not played it go right ahead!

The first Metal Gear was a great game for what it was, but this sequel is far, far beyond it in enjoyment and quality level.  Even after all these years it holds its own against the much more recent Gameboy Color Metal Gear Solid remake/spinoff in terms of enjoyable overhead espionage action and storytelling.  Many of the features that make Metal Gear Solid so popular were first introduced in this MSX title.  I don't want to spoil them all, but they include the helpful on-screen radar/minimap, dueling with helicopters, dramatic plot twists and interesting, psychotic villains (the duel in a minefield that is alluded to by the Cyborg ninja in MGS occurred in this game)...

For the uninitiated, in a nutshell this game tells the story of a rambo-like soldier who sneaks into a military base, armed only with his wits, and using stealth and his wits he gradually arms himself, communicates with foes and allies over his walkie-talkie (which provides some humorous moments, the bad guy's portrait is sean connery!) and must overcome various obstacles and battles such as security cameras, electrified floors, and ultimately Metal Gear the walking nuclear doomsday machine. 

Be prepared for immersive, smart and challenging gameplay, a great plot, an excellent and varied soundtrack and many surprises along the way.  Thanks Vizzed for hosting the English version of this classic (after I requested it lol), an indispensable part of our video game heritage. 

On the negative side, I can't figure out how to tell the emulator that I do not want f2 and f4 to be the save and load state buttons, since both of those buttons are used by the game.  If I repeatedly press them and then press escape to get out of the emulator menu, eventually the game recognized that I am trying to use the radio or weapon/item menu, respectively, but its a bit of an unnecessary annoyance that gets in the way of the otherwise great gaming experience. 

Also, you will need to know some controls.  Spacebar = weapon when you have equipped one, alt = punch, ctrl+alt = crawl, f2 and f3 open your items and weapons menus, f4 activates your walkie talkie, and that is pretty much all you need to know.

the f2 and f4 buttons, work, you just have to press ESC after to "cancel save" or "cancel load", respectively. the F keys don't work every time, but it never takes me more than 5 attempts.

I know it is an annoyance but I just played with a bunch of different possible ideas to redefine the function keys but I couldn't figure it out.  

I look forward to playing this game because your review made it sound like an awesome game to play, I thought your review was really good and you had some really good detail and information in your review. I hope that you can make more reviews in the future because this one is very well done. I like how you broke the game down and really went into detail with it and your scoring, you gave reasoning for it. I think that this is a pretty good review. I just recommend that you try to aim for 500-1000 words to make it a more detailed review. Otherwise I thought this was a great read and you did an excellent job. Keep up the good work and keep making more reviews because they are really interesting and worth reading!

This is a pretty good review, but let's try to get it over 100 words next time though. It would help a whole lot and it would get you more Viz. Anyways this is a good review and you went into detail with it.

did you mean over 1,000 words?  I am confused!  This review was 399 words... It wasn't an uber-thorough review (I didn't address the graphics for example) but when I wrote it I was super excited because I had requested they add the english translation to the RGR so when they actually did it I temporarily lost my mind with joy.

they added a note to the game, it seems that scroll lock will disable the save state stuff.  now you know and knowing is half the battle
