Davideo7 :
tRIUNE :

This is a small matter, I suppose, but I like the idea, so...

How about, on the page where you choose the game that you want to play, if the game is unplayable (no plugins at all that work for it) the center image be changed from "Image Coming Soon" to indicate this? "No Plugin Available" or similar. Why scan through a list of games only to find that they currently don't work?

I'm spitting out random ideas today!

CobraGuy : There already are indications on game pages for games that have had multiple reports or errors/graphic issues etc and has been verified by Staff.

A lot of times errors with games are due to the user and not always the rom although admittedly the indications on game pages might not be as up to date as they need to be. This is largely due to the sheer number of games needed to be tested, staff availability and the hope that the game testers are actually doing their correct job.

CobraGuy : Please don't summon David into threads. It just increases the already large number of things he has to look through. If you do have something that actually needs to be brought to his attention, a moderator will escalate it to him.

As for your suggestion, I believe Jordan summed it up well enough. A lot of this comes down to whether or not the game was even tested yet.

Jordanv78:  I understand that, but that is not quite what I mean.

The key examples I can give are the MAME games which can only be run using the RGR Plugin.  The ROM is checked by tRIUNE, verified that it does not run, and the link for playing the game is replaced with "Game doesn't work with Vizzed RGR Plugin." At that point in time, there is no reason for anyone else to enter the page to try and play (if they do, they see that there is no link to click) and then must do a 180 back to the search page.

Since David, tRIUNE, or whoever has decided to keep these ROMs (despite being completely unplayable at the moment) in the search index, they show up like this, indistinguishable from playable games that simply do not have any primary images.

My proposal is a change to distinguish these pages, that might look like this:

That is all: just a request to improve one piece of basic functionality. If it isn't done. oh well. But it was worth the request.

EDIT: Ugh... why does summoning always break on me after previewing? lol

CobraGuy : I understand what you are saying. With regards to the MAME games I think they show up on the web list because no one has had time to remove them. Since things are constantly being changed sometimes it takes a little while for tRIUNE to determine if he can find a replacement rom or not, or get it taken off the index.

One way to be sure that the game hasn't been tested and/or is playable is it will have that gibberish title which was automated by its file name when it was added. A script was then ran to rename a majority of the games to their actual game title. If the game is playable, the title will be renamed manually. When all games have been tested then another script can be ran to remove all non-playable games.

It makes sense. I don't mean to pester; I'm used to being more "involved" and understanding the nature of particular websites when I have visited them for some time. The "I wonder why they made that choice" and such.

It's my personal human nature. And it runs wild!
