First make sure your system is powerful enough to actually run the game. Emulating can take a great deal of power, especially for N64 games, because its not just running the game software, but the firm ware as well.

Beyond this, check your settings, and the FAQ pages about the game, and the N64, there are known issues and solutions there from more experienced users then I.
