I looked at the game section and couldn't figure out where to put this. It doesn't really fit anywhere else.(at least I think it doesn't) If there should be another place that it belongs then please move to the right place

For as long as I could remember, my family has been relying on reviews of movies and other stuff to figure out if something is worth it. It was so excessively used that when I buy a game or decided on a movie, I find myself looking for the reviews. Sometimes despite this I end up enjoying it, but other times my view is forever tarnished by a negatively reviewed movie or game. I struggle with distancing myself from them but I don't want to waste money if the game sucks. Even a rental costs money and the only really free way is Emulators but that is only good for the older systems. I also have a tough time being a real critic and enjoy everything but still fake peer pressure that I put on myself prevents me from ignoring the reviews. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to avoid the need to rely on reviews and what truly makes a horrible game or movie.

Thanks!!!!

Sorry for the potential wrong file system!!!!
