As Christians we know that God will speak to us when we need to hear Him and in whatever way will catch our attention. Now my question to my fellow brothers and sisters at Vizzed is has God ever spoken to you in a way that others might find unusual or weird? Let me share my own experience, which considering this is a gaming board is really going to seem fitting: Years ago I had a major argument with my Mom over something so unimportant I don't even remember what it was. I stormed off to my computer and she went elsewhere. I started playing Civilization IV to blow off steam and after a while I encountered the Indians and the Ashoka leader head popped up. Instead of the normal greeting text I got "Hello! Let us sit down, drink some tea, and discuss obedience to one's parents and how it will extend your life." Now in my current state I thought that was just a coincidence and shrugged it off. A little later I encountered the Americans and George Washington pops up and instead of the normal text I get "Hello! I am happy to see you, I was just reading about the importance of obedience to your parents in the Rules of Civility". Now at this point I start thinking that there is running theme here. Then a little later still Ashoka comes back up with the exact same text as the first time. Not even I am that thick so I start praying "Okay Lord! I get it now!" and I went to find my Mom and apologized and told her what happened and this is one of her favorite stories to tell to this day. Now between encountering the leader heads God was working on me from the heart and I was already feeling remorse over being disobedient but seeing what I saw on the computer screen really hammered it home for me. I have never forgotten that day as a result and honestly I love talking about this as much as my Mom does because it is so very humbling to really think about it. Well, that is interesting, and it's great that you acted on it in a positive way. I think the important thing in that story is not so much your view of how it came about, but that you were in the frame of mind to do what you did. |

Wow! That is really, really amazing! I think it's wonderful and awe-inspiring when God reaches out to us like that. I mean, honestly, He cares THAT much. What can fill you with a greater sense of value, love, or appreciation? I don't know that God has spoken to me in strange ways, but I know He's nudged me to do strange things which I didn't understand. And then as the day progressed, and there turned out to be a reason He nudged me in that direction, I've been astonished. God is Amazing, and it's only when we don't heed His advice that we miss out. FredElliot and Singelli, Thank you your posts. I think both of you hit the nail on the head, really. As Fred says what matters when God speaks to us is that we are in the right frame of mind to respond in the appropriate manner. If we don't, it is has been my experience that God will continue to work on us until we do. His love is that great, as Singelli said. Every time I remember that day, I am filled all over again with a sense of awe and unworthiness that He would do that for me. I mean think about it, God is the Master of All Creation, and yet He does something like speak to a fussy teenager through a computer game. Again, God speaks to us with what we need to hear because He loves us enough to do so. Wow. Thank you your posts. I think both of you hit the nail on the head, really. well...idk if this counts as him "speaking" to me, but i think he has interacted with me. (this is a true story. i don't joke about these things...). When I was younger (less than 3 years old) my room was on the second floor of my house. in mornings i used to crawl out of my crib and end up at the top of the staircase. i then would have a dream that a figure resembling jesus would carry me down the stairs ( i was young. i could'nt walk down stairs ). when i woke up, i found that i was at the bottom of the stairs. i don't know how i remember this, but i do. |

I can now answer this question with something a little more concrete, and I think it's a very interesting thing to mention. You see, I consider myself t be a fairly new Christian. I grew up in a non-religious household, was surrounded by mainly non-religious people, and only came to know Christ as my personal Savior about 5 or 6 years ago. Throughout those five or six years, there have been various times where I felt a small nudge to say this or do that.... or just overwhelmed with gratitude into the point of praise. However, a little over a month ago, something happened in real life which hurt me very badly. I hadn't felt that kind of pain in a long time, and I was lost in my emotions. I wept and cried, and felt that I had no one to turn to. I was actually clicking through random vizzed profiles when music started playing on one. It confused me because I didn't realize it was coming from that person's page, and I've always had ads blocked on my browser. Additionally, this music was worship music. It struck me HARD, and I remember God telling me just to put everything in his hands. As I reflected on the event occurring, I was still tremendously hurt. My heart felt as though it was being squeezed by a very strong fist, and I struggled even to breathe. Tears fell down my face until my eyelashes clung together. But you know what's odd? During the whole thing, I was in a state of pure worship. The pain in my heart, I turned into love for God, and I just kept singing, and singing, and crying, and taking with God. Telling God that I loved Him and that I trusted Him. Asking God to give me strength and to help me realize He was there for me. I almost felt like God was smiling at me and telling me to just keep giving my grief to Him. I can't even explain it properly in words. It was as though I felt the most emotional pain I had ever experienced in my life, and at the same time I was in utter awe of God's magnificence... totally in love with Him and what He offers us. The two conflicting emotions coursed through my body at the same time, and I've got to say.... the experience was absolutely amazing. I've never talked with God in a stranger way, but it certainly and truly revealed God's amazing Power. Even now, the feeling of closeness that I had to God in that moment... makes me smile. I wouldn't take that night away for anything. However, a little over a month ago, something happened in real life which hurt me very badly. There are two recent times I can immediately think of. A year or so ago, I read Soren Kierkegaard's parable called (I think this is the title), "The King and the Maiden." There was something about that parable that really made me feel God's love in a profound way. I actually fell to the floor and wept. Another random time was when I watched C.S. Lewis' The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Though the book is infinitely better than the movie (the movie changes so many things), the ending of it really touched me. If you have never read anything by Lewis I would seriously recommend it! |

Singelli : I know exactly what that feels like (referring to your 2nd post).
I was at this place in my life, probably about a year ago, where I was (ENEMY ATTACK ALERT! ) convinced that I was not saved. I was so sure about this I did not know what else to do, but to go on my knees and ask God, "What is this? What now?! I cannot explain it, but I was given the following scripture so clearly. The Book, Chapter and verses were like a "flash" in my mind. Isaiah 41:9-10: "You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, And called from its farthest regions, And said to you, ‘You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away: Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’" How awesome is He?!
