Do Is the Sonic story finished?

 
Did Sonic team end its series Sonic team left some preety glaring implications. 1) robotnik wanted to retire from world domination. 2) both Egg Man and Robotnik are trapped in the white world with no resources or exits, making me wonder how they could get out of this one. Also, Colors ended in a way that, to me, says goodbye. I know Unleashed/Colors ended in a similar way, Generations seemed like a final run to me.

What they did for colors/unleashed is that Egg Man was launched, Team Rocket style, out to space. There he found something that he could use to takeover the world. He's not in space, he has no resources, and he's stranded with his past self. Also, it seemed that,like Wily Castles, Generations was a final push for victory and that, like American MM7, was going to finally put an end to this. Unless Eggman put a fail safe portal device in Metal to retrieve him, well, he screwed.

If I know Eggman, he'll find a way out. One thing that you could credit the mad scientist for is his resiliency. Sonic Dimensions will probably explain the fat man's return, seeing that  the game is said to be a direct sequel to Sonic Generations. Look at it this way; if Robotnik can survive being sucked into a black hole of his own making, he can find his way back to reality. If this guy was so easily rid of, he would have been killed when the Death Egg crash-landed in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

I thought that maybe that's what's gonna happen but I doubt it. Colors and Generations are two of the few games that I would
rate a 10, when you make a good game, you don't end, you keep going. Generations and Colors has shown that Sega now knows
how to make good Sonic games, and now that they've finally figured it out they should apply what they have learned.

No need for a new villain, to get rid of Robotnik would be like to remove Bowser from Mario (as much as I'd like to see a new villain).
As said earlier, I doubt that the series will end, after all Sonic could have died along with Sega's withdrawal from being a Hardware company.
