One of the top 3 RPG games for the super Nintendo system. Six very different characters to choose from to meet anyone's style from humans to aliens and elves, male and female, magical and less-magical characters meant to appeal to as many people and styles as possible. You have HP and MP just in like most RPG's, learn spells and earn HP as you battle an assortment of monsters. When you level up you also gain between 1-5 in the attributes of Power, Defense, Magic, Agility, Speed. Every time you play or even level up it is different. There are also variations in the story line for the different characters and choices you pick. In addition to the stats from leveling up you can also purchase new armor and weapons as you travel from town to town increasing your weapon and armor strength ultimately increasing your power and defense. Along with the weapons and armor to help out your stats there is a huge assortment of items to purchase from the different towns. All the towns do not have the same items for make sure you stock up on what you need before you leave town. The items are similar to most games HP potions and MP herbs to heal, but in the game you can also buy items that can cast spells if you have a weak magic character or one who does not have a certain spell . There is pretty much and item for almost every spell or, a spell for almost every item that you can buy. You can hook up with some of the other characters in the game and they will join your team. The team can only consist of the two people your character and one other. The other characters in the game will not always want to be your partner, you may have to level up before they may ask you, or they may just want to travel alone. The Characters can also choose to fight you or challenge you for your RUNES (magical stones in the games that you collect as a part of the main story line). The characters that you do not choose in the beginning are the ones who may be a future partner or a future foe. Each Character has a unique strengths and weaknesses in which another character may compliment yours perfectly. You will just have to play the story line with each character and see which combo and story line is the best. While I disagree that it is in the top 3 on the system, I agree with everything else that you said. I love going through this game every now and again and choosing a different character from my last run. My last three times through I have used Valsu, Esuna and Lux. I love a grind it out game which is partly why I like this game. The part that sticks with me about this game is actually the music. The town and boss music especially are awesome to me. I've only been here for less than a week. The game I have played the most is Mystic Ark. It seems to be somewhat of a sequel to 7th Saga, but so far not storyline wise. Just a spiritual successor if you will. Although I could be wrong! The beginning took me a while to get used to, and by that I mean leaving the first place your at, hahaha. But seriously I'm hooked now and it's already shaping up to be better than 7th Saga. If you haven't tried it I strongly suggest it since you like 7th Saga. Mystic ark sounds like I will have to try it. I too play threw many times with different characters there are actually different ways to go through the story as well some characters go to different towns in different orders after you get the first two runes. Mystic quest is another great RPG you should try for the super Nintendo system. They actually did make a real sequel to the 7th saga but the first one was not that big in the states at that time so it was only released in Japan I have only seen screen shots of it I have never actually seen the game played. Another game you probably have already played through SUPER Mario RPG that graphics way ahead of its time for super Nintendo. You can move freely through towns in 3-d directions. The game itself is not "flat" as most super Nintendo games are. Then of course my 2nd favorite game Zelda A link to the past. I would like to hear your top three RPG games and try them. In my opinion these are the top three but only out of the RPG games I have actually played, maybe you can change my mind. I love to try new RPG's whenever I can and if there are some out there better than these 3 I definitely want to try them. |

I have beat 49 RPG's (nerd). 16 SNES. Top 3 is real tough man.... Without to much thought I would throw Lufia II, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger up there but even then your missing out. Breath of Fire 2 and Final Fantasy 2 (US) are 2 of my all time favorites. Although I can't say objectively that they are better games. Also if you a fan of watching game reviews watch ProJared FF Mystic Quest. It's 20 minutes but it's so good I couldn't change it. You definitely need to be a fan of the game to like it but if you are it's worth it. I also have to mention Phantasy Star IV for Genesis. It's simple and has little semblance of "extras". I was unfortunate to have been limited to only the Nintendo series when I was younger. So I may have a narrowed view of the RPG's. The only other time I played anything else was mortal kombat for Sega and paper boy the Sega Channel ha, remember that back in the day you were the man if you had the Sega channel. I kind of fell off from RPG's when the newer systems started to come out. Got hooked on dynasty warriors and mainly sports games. Found this site and started to play all these old game again nostalgic! I didn't ever realize on the Mystic Quest box it said final fantasy above it. Is this game part of the final fantasy saga? I never really got into any of the final fantasies ever but if that is part of them I really enjoyed that one. I just remember playing one of them and the battle style just totally turned me off to the game. Then again I think I may have played one for maybe ps2 it came out on and it was like I really was traveling around in distant land. One I do have to mention that I cannot find on this site actually it was for ps2 Grandia III was a very good game, one that could be different each time depending on your style. That Mystic Ark game does look sweet and the images had definitely looked similar to the images from The 7th Saga. I am going to check it out. |
