An Adventure... In your Pocket.

What do we have here? Oh, another Hudson Soft game (yes, another)... I think I've talked a lot of times about this company on my previous reviews. So, Let's talk about the game instead... If I'm not mistaken, The first game I ever Reviewed before turning a RGR staff, was: Adventure Island 2. Ahh, Good game, good game. Full of fun and variety, since you start playing it, until you finish the game (or until you get a Game Over.) In my opinion, this was the game that made famous the saga... If you ever played it. I think, you'll agree. One year after the release of this title, a port of it was released... And this port was made for the succeful Game Boy. Wanna know if this port makes justice to the original game? Yes? Well...  Keep reading, please.

Story: After the defeat of the Evil Witch Doctor and the rescue of his girlfriend Tina, Master Higgins thought that it would be a great idea take a vacation. So, he and his girlfriend decide to visit one of the most peaceful places on the earth: The Dinosaur Archipelago. However, a few days after landing on Fern Island. (one of the islands of this Archipelago) Tina is kidnapped again. This time by a group of Monsters, who live on the 8 islands of the area. Now Higgins has to fight once again to rescue his girlfriend. Things won't be easy, that's true... But, this time Higgins isn't alone. A group of Dinosaurs will help him on his adventure. Of course, you'll have to help him too... (5/10)

Graphics: Ehh... Let's say decent. Decent graphics. These are pretty inferior in comparison to the NES's version graphics. There are games with better graphics on the GB. But, again, graphics here are pretty decent. Backgrounds are okay. Nothing good to tell besides their simplicity. (Well, these were simple on the NES version too, so, I think this port emulates that perfectly.)

Sound: Hope you have your GB headphones to make it sound better. Because the music sounds pretty bad. It has the same songs of the NES version. Just that these have been adjusted to the GB's chip sound. SFX sounds the same, so, no major differences at this.

Addictiveness: Quite high. Like it's console counterpart, you'll want to play this game again, again, and again... Because it never gets boring. It's nice to play it again. (7/10)

Depth: Let's see... This is how you control our wild hero and his partners: By pressing "B", he'll use the Stone Hammers (as long you have them equipped), he'll also run by doing this. And by pressing "A", he'll jump. That's all... Nothing Complex. The complex thing is on the game itself: Before starting a stage, you'll be able to pick any Dino or weapon you have collected during the previous stages. You can also save them to use them later in the game. Which is a really useful feature. On every stage, you must guide Higgins to the end of the same, avoiding (or getting rid of) enemies or Obstacles. While collecting fruit, to keep the time meter full. (Because, if it drains entirely, You'll lose a life.) Once you reach the end of the stage. You'll have to "Pick an Egg". Some give different amounts of points, but other give extra lives. There's no a way to know which egg contains the lives, or the higher amount of points... So, it's all a luck thing. Let's talk about the Dinosaurs: These are hidden in eggs, and every one of them have different skills to help you. For example: The blue Dino, that can walk on Ice without slip, or the Red Dino, that can walk on Lava. It's up to you find the other dinos and secrets of the game... So, better start playing!

Difficulty: As the counterpart, this game has a rising difficulty... The first stages are easy. But as long you progress... Things become harder and harder. (8/10)

Final Rating: 8

Not a bad port... It could have been a lot better. (Just look at the port of Adventure Island 3, and you'll know why I'm telling this) But, it's still a great game that deserves a chance. So, what are you waiting for? Go and play this game now!

Eddy88 : Nice review. This game does look a bit interesting...although I'm not too sure if I'll get as addicted to it as you say. Once again, nice review.

megamanmaniac : Thanks, I always rate the games according to what I feel when playing them. It resulted a bit addicting for me, so, I gave that rating on the "Addictiveness" part.
